Another shortage Neil, the turkey man is grumbling that there's not enough CO2 in the papers today.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
I realise there is no single solution that will fit here. But there a lot of individual solutions and all should be considered on an equal footing. Geothermal heat extraction, for example, on a large scale has pros and cons. One of the cons is an effect not dissimilar to Fracking. Link Fracking to Geothermal and watch the populace run! So, should we never consider Geothermal? Add words like Cancer and link it even tenuously to something and watch what happens. The various factions will feed you as much disinformation as you are prepared to swallow. If there is one thing that will help it is reducing Consumption. Consumption of what? Well, everything really to a greater or lesser degree. Can I see that happening an time soon? Sadly, no, not in the "worlds" we currently live in - separately.

Will everybody be prepared to put up with a Turkey shortage in this "Christmas Crisis"? Think Toilet Rolls and you realise how greedy, selfish and short sighted some of us are. Some of us don't care how our "Things" gets here or how it is done as long they are not the ones "Inconvenienced" Changing this mindset and behaviour is going to be very difficult.Gibbo2286 wrote: 19 Sep 2021, 09:39 Another shortage Neil, the turkey man is grumbling that there's not enough CO2 in the papers today.![]()

Too loud Neil and couldn't get the words so looked it up.
Ironic
Alanis Morissette
An old man turned 98
He won the lottery and died the next day
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
And isn't it ironic, don't you think?
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
And who would've thought, it figures
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly
He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye
He waited his whole damn life to take that flight
And as the plane crashed down, he thought
"Well, isn't this nice?"
And isn't it ironic, don't you think?
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
And who would've thought, it figures
Well, life has a funny way of sneaking up on you
When you think everything's okay and everything's going right
And life has a funny way of helping you out
When you think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up
In your face
A traffic jam when you're already late
A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife
It's meeting the man of my dreams
And then meeting his beautiful wife
And isn't it ironic, don't you think?
A little too ironic
And, yeah, I really do think
It's like rain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
And who would've thought, it figures
And, yeah, life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

Helping you out

To take that point and look at it is to look at the fundamental reason most of us* get up in the morning. We get up to go to work to earn the money to buy the things that we either need or want. These things in some way make our lives better. The human race has spent an awful long time finely honing that desire and ingraining it into most of our lifestyles.
*- Not including the retired people who get up in the morning to plan their day around what's the best time to queue up in the Post Office when it'll be most busy, the best time to have a chat at the till in Sainsbury's so they can hold up the most people, what are the best roads to drive at 30mph in a derestricted area, and where they can stop for a coffee and cake with a nice view

Correct Mick there's less time for gossip and queueing always more to do than the time available.

Nice to see some pictures of Gasholders or should I say former Gasholders in amongst the reporting of the "September Gas Crisis".

My memory of gas holders is from the post war fuel crisis, I queued many times outside Nechells gas works with an old pram waiting for a bag of gas coke to keep our solitary fireplace burning.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
I probably misheard this, but on Radio 4 this morning an 'industry expert' commented that we hold about 3 days worth of gas at any one point, whereas in Europe they hold more like 3 months worth. Could something possibly be broken with our energy business model ?

Yes, short term planning with the minimum possible storage and too much reliance on JIT (just in time) delivery.
