Nice one Matt, I thought i was just going a bit .... older than I am sort of thing . Seems there's a lack of quality control going on now. Ive yet to sort mine ive got the new ones but everything went against me , weather one of them plus other engaements. When I do get the time I will pop some photos up of my findings, had online stuff to sort found out my payment thinhs have been hacked so ive been speaking to the banks online fraud dept, 1700 quid to recover , not a happy chap at the mo. However over half so far has been recovered . Next step there tracing where this activity starts from . Soon as this is settled and I have free time them drop links will be done , I have used the car and it seems ok still knocks but not as much

Hope the fraudulent money recovery is quickly resolved Husky,

Drop links will wait (I'd think you could disconnect one end if knocking gets annoying - the drop links only, err, "link" roll bar to strut, they don't serve any other functions (i.e. wheel won't fall off even with them removed :) ) so fine to ignore for a bit.

I'd no idea how long the "little ball joints" drop links had been on the grey 308, so not sure if they are any shorter in life. The ones going on were I think Febi ones, so hopefully half decent

Thanks Matt, well on the way now to almost every pound recovered seems there's was like a piggy back money pushing thing going on, acounts get hacked money slowly taken over a few months and even confirmation emails being deleted so your unaware till you actually have a good look into all your payment methods thats how you find transactions you know your never made ,pretty good work on my banks fraud department they have been amazing.

Might be worth a try that regarding drop link temp remove for test purposes only 😉, and i was thinking maybe it could be radiating from the driver side? So I'm having a look today as ive a free day
while I'm here some toqure settings I thought might be worth popping here

110Nm lower wish bone nuts
44Nm pinch bolt to lower wishbone ball joint.
99Nm hub nut then 29° this could be for petrol cars .

This month in a few days time will be the 2nd Aniversary of my dad's passing . Today I'm checking out this knocking from passenger side.
As I made me way to the car I was greeted with a trail of feathers ! So I said good morning dad 😃, then 30 mins later the picasso sold.
The passenger drop link had no space to get the whole of your finger like the driver side did as I checked that which was a good thing I did because my new steering tie rod gaiter had poop off its clips , so I've put 2 new jubilee type clips which the inner was a pain but that done , im now doing the passenger side and the gaiter is fine but check out the impact marks on the new lower wish bone I renewed a few weeks ago ! The drop link has been hitting it

Ok my findings. The lower wish bone compared to the one that came off doesn't have a lowered section where the drop link sits above so im creating my own fix with this rather handy little angle grinder

How about this . Since the 2 new front tires the clunk noise seems to have stopped .

You never know Jim, once had a weird rattly knock while driving the 398cc and that was front passenger side all 4 needed pounding up, ive sort of not bothered to put the cable ties back on the wheel trims on the front, not worried if I lose one as there pretty naff , if I hear any sort of the same noise I'm rechecking the road wheel bolts right away.

Ive noticed the temperature gauge is slower than the 308 but maybe its because its a lower compression (£20 road tax pa) 308cc £17 per month .. once the temperature is up it sits at 88..89° not losing fluids so maybe its just the way it is.

I drove one of my 504s around Sydney for some 2 months with a rattle that turned into a very bad knocking noise. I went to different mechanics searching for answers for the source of that noise.

One day I was driving to work and the noise became so bad that I had to pull over and I called for roadside assistance. Together, we searched for the noise, and then he jacked up the rear of the car. It was immediately obvious what the problem was. The left side rear wheel was about to fall off. Literally, fall off. I had had tyres replaced two months ago and somehow one wheel didn’t get tightened properly.

From what I remember, two of the wheel nuts had come off and were rattling around in the little hubcap. The other two wheel nuts were not far from falling off. A couple of turns and they were off.
Cheers,
Andrew

I liked the comment above because he lives to tell the tale of the experience that could of gone so very bad, plus a lesson for everyone, keep an eye on them wheel nuts or road bolts , I check mine once a month always have and always will , same as oil and coolant , plus brake fluid.

It must be much more noticeable on the front, a mate and I once had a learning curve lesson (think the lesson was: "don't rush even if you are running late" !) we chucked his partner's Corsa back together after some work, something minor but we'd had front wheels off.

We set off on a short test run but hadn't gone a mile before this very regular thump thump thump and "it feels a bit weird" turns out front wheel bolts had only been finger tight and had backed off a good couple of turns towards coming out!
