Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Well I pulled it but it decided to part ways and left the tip in. My mate has a milling machine so head off I think and get it milled out. I think I might pull the other 3 while I'm at it any one disagree given the circumstances.

You're that far in now there's nothing more to lose.
Go for it.
Go for it.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
This is the injector I pulled last night it seems to have unscrewed the tip in the head. I bought a used set off eBay. Need to buy a head gasket for when I pull the head. This has just spiralled but I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Darren,
It looks like a previous owner has been there before and done some work but didn't resolve the problem they were looking for.
Do you know any of the previous work carried out on the engine ? This may be a good starting point to help you finish the job correctly.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Hi Kenny, I asked when I bought the car but he was as vague as the service history. Should have walked away but it seemed ok. I'm at the last hurdle and I have set of much cleaner looking injectors to back in when I am done. I need to tap the last section and try and pull it again. what concerns me is the amount of rust on the injector bodies, is this common on these do you know. Its a lot of work to pull the injectors if you don't have a low profile slim ram. I now have it sussed how to pull them, if a slide hammer doesn't do it easily just get a ram or alternatively forget the slide hammer altogether I used a 14mm threaded rod a bit of 3in GB pipe two pieces of 1/2" plate steel one top and bottom I will take a few pics of the rig when I get a break in the weather. She will be a good car when I am finished but it is nearly a restoration project at this stage. I get the impression every penny that could be spared was, so not great the engine itself is ok but needs a bit of TLC. I did ask specifically if there had been any issues with injectors when buying and he said no, he seemed genuine enough but heinseit says different.

Impressive rig Darren,
I have no experience of the injectors on the later models. The only injectors I removed were on my Xantia 2.0 90 hp I had no problem there.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Hi lads yeah it's an absolute beast. I got a loan of the ram off a mate who got it off his mat who uses it to pull pins on trains. I knew it would pull injectors but I was afraid of what else it might pull with it. I pulled the injectors on my old mk 110 C5 years ago by hand simple job. Same on a 2.2 primera I had but these are an absolute pig to get out.they bowed to that though . I just have the last 2 inches of the first one to remove now. I think I will need a 17 mm tap and a bit of 17 mm rod to pull it.failing that I will have to drill it out.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Would not normally be ideal to press on the tip - but as the bit you have left to deal with is scrap:
As you are taking the head off anyway, is it worth trying to press up on the injector tip from the cylinder side?
I had a fight getting one of a DV6 injectors out, stuck with black carbon - but it was nothing compared to what you've been up against!
My only suggestion is if you are gearing up for machining the head to get rid of that bit, I'd consider testing and getting the glow plugs sheared off sooner rather than later. I snapped two despite trying to be ultra careful on the same DV6 engine. Easy enough to drive them out the head from below with a pin punch I found.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Hi Matt, I was hoping to avoid pulling the head by tapping the last piece but if I am unsuccessful it will have to be head off and as you say and try to knock out the rest. I suppose it would make sense to inspect valves etc while I have it out. I was just thinking about the glow plugs this evening with dread of course but I am going to pull them aswell they are probably the original ones.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I just had a look Matt, you are spot on Change the plugs while engine is out they would be a pig to get to with the engine in. They are hiding at the back of the engine behind the EGR cooler. They must have been told to up the man hours for service and decided this should ensure a days work for a tech. Talk about taking the proverbial .
