I think the last one of those I saw was at my grandparents in around 1953. Used to power the radio and exchanged at the local electricians for a charged one weekly.

I have never seen one of those other than when we were teaching a new apprentice that it was an ac accumulator!! We had huge versions of open lead acid cells in the battery rooms that used to be found in strowger telephone exchanges and which begat many other apprentice wind ups!! :-D

Presumably it was OK to put corner spheres on the seats though...

I used to take an accumulator to be charged for a neighbour when I was a lad, funny thing is that it went to the fish & chip shop who must have had a sideline.

Oooh - might have been on the B581 somewhere. We were heading back from Loch Ness to Kincraig by some back road. Spring/early Summer, near three years ago.

Bit of transposition Derek? Unless Leicestershire has grown a few hills and moorland, I guess thats the B851 :-D

All you ever wanted to know about the B851 but were afraid to ask

Now as far as roads in the vicinity of Loch Ness go, the ultimate is undoubtedly this, from the FCF AA Box Challenge point of view anyway :-D

I like the way the road just seems to disappear, only to be seen again in the far distance.

Whoops! Sorry - wrong number!

Love those roads and paths that go somewhere, and lead you to wondering where. ""You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to. . . ."

Indeed. "Not all those who wander are lost".

One who was not lost nor a wanderer - M. Lucien Boiron with his B14 pick-up. Totally original. Taken in the village square in Ouchamps, Loir et Cher sometime around 2000. He had a collection of cars; three B14's, a Rosalie fully restored and a DS gathering dust in one of his barns. He was a farmer.
