No, it wasn't that one but he was captain of two sister ships laying and repairing cables between Oz and NZ.
He often told of having to do dynamic positioning - the ship had to be held for up to 48 hours in the same position - hence the underwater 'jets' in the bow and stern.

Nice James.

Now when did you last see one of these? I had an S-Reg Coupe in Finlandia Green, but I also like the Berlina apparently there are only 15 left (2018). Put a smile on my face when I came across this excellent contemporary photo from the thread "Chod North-East. Spotting through time." on AutoSh*te

Photo

and a nice red one, and a bit of an article on the car

I had a 1600 Beta Spyder in orangey red with a disgusting brown hood, never forgotten the "cruise control" which was a lockable hand throttle you pulled out and twisted like an old choke!! :)

So I am afraid the internet cannot produce an image of a verde finlandia Lancia Beta Coupe. None must have survived :-D

One of its other features was its garish "mustard" upholstery. Found an example here, dark glasses may be required.

Gibbo, dont know if you clicked on this article which has some very nice pics and the story of of a red 2000 Berlina.
But it does mention a trader from Gloucestershire, which you may have come across in Lancia circles.
The Beta Berlina ceased production in 1981 and today there are probably only 15 2000 saloons that remain on the road.

Sinclair came across his example in 2015. “It was owned previously by an Italian from Gloucestershire who ran his own garage, Mr Gino Fatica. As far as I can gather, he ran it from (almost) new then tucked it away in his workshop where it sat for at least a decade until he passed on.”

Fatica’s son then sold the Lancia and Sinclair discovered that it was “in remarkable condition for any car, let alone a Lancia Beta. It was rustproofed from new with Dinitrol, which was probably the smartest investment ever”.

Yes Neil I know Gino Fatica's garage although I've never had any dealings with it...……….as far as I know...……….I've met most of the traders in Gloucestershire at some time on my trips to the many auctions I attended.
