Story on the news today about taking some Scottish Pine Martens and reintroducing them to the Forest of Dean, or as it is known in FCF circles Gibboland!
https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... estershire
It is possible the reintroduction will help manage the number of non-native grey squirrels in the forest and anywhere else the pine martens reach.

Now Gibbo isnt too keen on the Wild Boar that are running amok round those parts, but the Pine Marten is much cuter, and a natrural predator of the Squirrel, and the greys being fatter and meatier than the reds a natural check on their population.

I could do with a Pine Marten in our garden following an unwanted visitor a couple of weeks before I went to Mallorca. Not the greatest picture but zoom in and look at the top of the path:

I see a lot of squirrels here and seeing some yesterday was thinking about the pine marten solution - what happens when they have culled the grey squirrels?
Will they be self limiting or branch out into other dietary requirements.

Nice and cute but they are carnivores and need to feed, so they will take what is available. As was demonstrated in one of those Springwatch programmes from the Cairngorms young birds from the nest are just a normal part of the diet.

Is that likely to result in a Fox v Marten competition for food then I wonder? :?:

First long trip in the C5.

Picture above average consumption on the way up.

Middle picture average consumption for the journey including the Yorkshire hills and dales. Sutton Bank knocked 3 mpg off the average.

Top pic, average including running round here.

Good car show at Beamish on Sunday but it poured with rain.

I'll give you your 200th like for that Peter. Day out territory for us North Yorkshire, lovely part of the world.
If you ever see POTD flagging, lob up some pictures, I am sure you took a few more than just the dash and clocks!

We could do with the re- introduction of the lion or tiger to sort out the boar problem. :-D

I did take a picture of this - but I think you already have it. Couldn't take any of the car show due to the rain.

Quite like this one I got at the weekend, as it summarises a British classic car show perfectly I think...

Huntsman Brown, iirc, Neil.
Looks as if there was a 'brown roof section' at the rally!
