On my first venture into this investigation I have come up with 'The Pickled Egg Pub Company' which has a certain connection to the task in hand but as far as I can see they haven't actually named a pub 'The Pickled Egg' -- yet!!
Plan may be scuppered before it's begun. I have to take SWMBO for her pre admission COVID test at 9.30 Monday morning, after which she has to isolate until I take her in on Wednesday. However she will be in 2/3 nights with no visiting allowed so I will have the opportunity on Thursday or Friday for a little jaunt!! Having said that amalgamating with the Monday trip to Orpington does make more sense so I'll have to see what time we get back from the test!!
PS She's having her second (other) hip replacement if anyone's curious!!

Pickled Egg has been around for a long time but its terrible. The strangest folks hang out here. Its not a very cool place, very boring. I would not go here. I'd recommend going to Carlys, Nips, Waterfront, or Billy Hos before stopping in here. The place still has an odd smoke funk smell to it from pre-smoking ban era.
Gone replaced by a new bar called 4keeps.
Place is CLOSED, replaced by 4Keeps
The Pickled Egg is GONE, place was gutted and totally remodeled to make a new joint called "4Keeps". 4Keeps is a good bar, only lacking item is any sort of food items outside frozen pizza (Emil's which is good).

I am pleased to say that all did go well with her hip replacement which was done under epidural so she is now back in her room free of pain for the first time in18 months so very pleased with herself!!

The Pickled Egg hasn't got a great track history as a pub name, the only surviving one on the entire planet, ( and the class of 21 TIT, hasn't come up with any evidence to the contrary) apart from the FCF's very own virtual pub, is that former run-down, but recently refurbished establishment in St. Helens.
The most ancient of Pickled Egg pubs I have discovered, was one in Clerkenwell London. The current street Crawford Passage, was formerly called Pickled Egg Walk. The Crawford name comes from a former licencee of the Pickled Egg.
...Pickled Egg Walk. This walk which, alas, no longer exists, was once apparently a “place of low amusements” and took its name from the Pickled Egg tavern. The tavern, in its turn, took its name from the fact that the proprietor had a particularly delectable recipe for pickled eggs.
The story goes that Charles II (though some version say it was his father, Charles I) once stopped there, sampled that delicacy for the first time, and enjoyed it. Royal pleasure was something that any canny landlord would capitalize on and this proprietor was no exception, promptly naming the inn for his speciality.
You wouldn't expect the old boozer still to be surviving.....no this is the streetscape today in Crawford passage

Unfortunately my planned trip to the connected pubs around Folkestone has to go on the back burner. Due to a reoccurence of a niggly fault in one of my maintenance fleet I have agreed to use my 'spare' day for further investigation. I will get round to it at some point, maybe even incorporate it into the South Coast Trip which I still hope to do when Ken is allowed to come over to the UK without jumping through covid hoops!!

From about 1870 to 1883 our W Hunter and Co were owners of the Brickworks effectively dating the brick to that time. The info follows the timeline of the works, and includes is an interesting piece from The Scotsman 12/01/1894 giving an account of Mr W Hunter who became provost of Portobello, and was also the author of "Biggar and the House of Fleming" (1862) a comprehensive history of his Birthplace.
