Had a mate with a Cresta that had vacuum operated wipers. They may just as well have left them of and saved the money.

Here's an exciting one... not!
A wander through a local industrial estate (got lost and this was the rout home).
Looks as though Valeo are opening a warehouse here.
This and the attached units were a Tin Lung factory
Not what you might think, it was a Vietnamese owned knitwear factory, long gone.
¼ mile from home. I used to work on that estate in the late seventies/early eighties.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Washington turned up on a programme that was on last night, probably a catch up thing.
Yes the TV Architect, of many a series on the TV, has another one with his plans to build a Council Estate.
and there he was in Washington visiting his mam, and waxing lyrical about the house she still lives in and which was his childhood home. Also some footage of the early days of Washington New Town as it was.
Homes/schools/shops/industrial estates for work/playing fields/walkways. I'm not that familiar with washington, more familiar with Cramlington, which has a network of walkways/cycleways/ underpasses/ so that from the outskirts of the town you can walk/cycle to the main centre without crossing a single road.
Regards Neil

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The way the houses were built in Washington initially was great, Not without the odd problem but when private houses started being built we went to look and they were horrendous in comparison.
We were allocated a brand new house, the street wasn't complete when we moved in - as a 'key worker' at the place I worked, which was having new premises built in Washington - on the estate where the Valeo place is the company were allowed about a dozen houses for employees to move to.
One problem with ours - and a bout 100 other houses, was the central heating pipes were run under concrete floors and the concrete corroded the copper pipes, leading to lots of leaks and a very costly and disrupting remedial procedure.
The architect that designed the place I worked at was Frank Hodgson, who designed the Sunderland Civic Centre in the same (octagonal) style.
Looks as though he still has his office in the Washington Arts Centre, 100 yards from where we used to live.
There are lots of footpaths around here, walkways and parks.
The stupid thing is that the footpaths will come to an end and then you are forced to walk on the road. Insane!

Should perhaps add that the place I worked is long gone. Walked past yesterday and it is just trees and bushes there now.

I have just been sorting through some old files and I found this picture of the demise of my last XM when the chap in the rover pulled out to overtake coming towards me!! Good job I wasn't in a mini:

That one was a really low mileage gem as well!!

Oh, gosh. That XM estate looks a tidy one, even in that photo. Although the front end has taken the impact, at least the passenger compartment looks intact - which is what really matters.mickthemaverick wrote: 06 Aug 2019, 15:52 I have just been sorting through some old files and I found this picture of the demise of my last XM when the chap in the rover pulled out to overtake coming towards me!! Ours got front-corner rammed by an electrician's van in Cadiz twenty years ago (while on holiday from UK), and repair bill topped £5k.

Sadly mine was well beyond economical repair but the loss did cause me to buy my first C5:
