So the mot test came and went good news as it passed , but since then it's developed a metalic knock every now and again , so after being bossed around by the wife and grandaughter on a weeks holiday which was great, I finally got time today to have a poke and dig around .. I found it and you won't belive what it is . The drop link is kissing the lower wish bone ive just purchased 330mm ones and the ones on it now are 350mm ! So as soon as the new ones arrive there being changed over. Pity as the ones one it are new as I did the passenger side but now finding my findings and what the measurements are I wonder if the previous owner just relied on the local garage for its works ? A big maybe I guess. I will update after the new ones get put on .

Sounds quite tight, bear with me I can check 206 / 307 / 306 Haynes figures (I've not got a 207 book. Well I've not got a 207, either!)

Haynes,
206 "anti-roll bar: connecting link nuts: 36 Nm"
306 (description as above) 40 Nm
307 (description as above) 36 Nm

So those, assuming the Book of Lies can be believed :rofl2: suggests you are a bit tight at 65 Nm

Holy jazz... now thats something to make your ears prick up ! So really a 207 isn't much different from the 206 36 Nm looks plenty . Once my new ones turn up then thats what there be done to. I was driving the 207 today and there's still another heavy sounding knock which sounds top end. The the leg and spring plus mount are all good . With the top mount being new. The drop link is almost kissing the wish bone so I thought yesterday is got to be this hitting the wish bone over slightly lumpy roads. Next im going to check the lower gear box mount , when im changing the drop links I will do that . I might check the u shape rubbers on the stabilizer bar , which can be done when the drop links are both off, it did feel tight though yesterday no feeling of lose or play when using a bar to push it down wards to get the drop link on to it , but to my findings it had to be pushed down a fair bit to get the drop link on , when checking the length they were 20mm longer which makes a heck of a difference, so being that much shorter (the new ones) then fingers crossed this knock might be sorted out. Haynes manuals have always been so vague.

Yes I was surprised, think I'd almost certainly be doing them up similar torque setting to you - though to be honest I do not normally torque these, happy enough I can set them at "enough" by feel.

Obviously that seriously undermined by "enough" actually turning out not to be much at all!

Common sense really . And as you know Matt when you've been doing cars for a few years you get the feel for these things. My new drop links have been shipped so midweek all going good 👍 update will follow and with some photos hopefully showing the differences. I did check some of the former keepers own history garage records receipt wise and they were replaced in 2018 so this garage might of put the wrong size on. Time will tell. Don't know about you id rather check and check then check again with certain items on cars , top priority suspension , brakes , wheels , engine and so on.

Oh yes, better safe than sorry! I've yet to have a "and then the wheel fell off" moment with the car and I'm keen to keep it that way!
Spoiler: show
I have had one, thankfully at slow speed and with no damage to anything/anyone else, with the trailer. Didn't enjoy that at all!

I have never forgotten the one road going wheel off that happened to me (I had a few in various competition cars but you expect that!). On the road I was a 17 year old front seat passenger in a fellow apprentice's Wolseley 1500, with three more lads in the back, and we were on our way back to college after a lunchtime pub visit. As we turned left into St John's Road in Harrow the nearside front wheel folded under us leaving us scraping along the kerb!! Fortunately only doing turn off speed so no injuries but the front suspension was a mess!! Needless to say the four of us piled out and ran back to college leaving the driver to deal with his car as necessary. A course of action adopted by Clarkson, Hammond and May throughout their road trip adventures!! Well we did it first so there!!!!! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

New drop links arrived yesterday, late afternoon it was raining . This morning it's still raining. However there is a size difference in not only lenght but the ball joint size aswell ! All be it not massively but enough to keep the whole thing away from head butting the lower wishbone arm.

On the topic of different sized ball joints, here's old and new as fitted to the Grey 308, a while back. Length etc all correct but a noticeable difference in ball joint size
