I had the same issue on both a C4 Cactus and a Partner Tepee. Replacing the front shock absorber with shock absorber mount fixed it. Maybe this will help someone.

Another recent topic with suspension knocking but we have to hear back on the fix once it is done viewtopic.php?t=89670

I would also check all the exhaust clamps as they can rust off on Citroens. If one needs replacing, rather than welding or replacing the exhaust, Autodoc sell repair brackets that just clamp on taking a few minutes to fit. I had to fit 1 on the last C3 and 2 on the Cactus. On the Cactus at first I thought the metallic knocking was from the engine or a pulley but pushing the exhaust tail pipe and then looking underneath found the culprits.

I went back to my regular mechanic and started with driver side strut, strut mount and drop link and the spring was all fine. This didn't make any significant improvement so mechanic suggested to replace strut, strut mount and drop link on the other side too. I am currently waiting for his call to see if this has fixed the problem.
