white exec wrote: 05 Jul 2018, 17:47 Marc, do you have the option of killing the interior volumetric sensors (if you have them), and leaving perimeter protection operational? I know it's a different system, but XM vol sensors could trigger falsely and easily in hot weather, even without a stowaway fly. OE includes a vol sensor defeat switch.

PS. Isn't that little rectangular box with the small plunger sticking out just a push-switch? I have exactly the same on each of the two XM bonnet catches.
Yes Chris, I have that option to disable the volumetric protection - and I did try that to eliminate the cause and made no difference - which told me it was one of the door, tailgate or boot contact sensors. Disabling the alarm then allowed the bonnet open message to be displayed, which was the giveaway.

I'll keep an eye out for the bonnet cable sensor - but unfortunately, the one for our 1.6 HDi (DWATED4) engine requires a completely different one (633943) to all the others (633936) for some mysterious reason - How the engine and transmission type can affect the bonnet sensor is a step too far!

Is it just a push-to-make switch?

can the switch part be separated from the lead as it's probably a commodity item and could be replaced without having to go to Citroen for a new assembly.

I did have a squiz at it when I finally got the thing off having returned from plastic surgery Elis.

It's a filament type sensor and a sealed unit me thinks - I can't see anyway in and you'd need something as thin as a scalpel to try and get in there.

So I'm off out to lunch tomorrow with some ex work colleagues so thought I'd give the old gal a bit of a wash and wax (before they throw a hosepipe ban on us). So I dug up some Autoglym wax from about 10 years ago  I managed to find along with the applicator sponge, which had shrivelled up to the size of a walnut

So soaked that for a bit and then out with the snow foam and pressure washer. Left it to dry (sort of) as I can't be bothered to go over it with a chamois - otherwise I'd be too knackered to do the hard stuff.

So applied with a damp sponge and rubbed it in. They say do a panel at a time, but I've done that before and then gave up on the rest of the panels! :rofl2:

So went mad and did all the panels and it was HARD WORK.

Finally managed to dig out my polishing cloths and then off we go again. Finally after about 1½ hours I called it a day and the results are not too bad. Not as shiny as Alasdair's Carlos Fandango Super Obsession Wax, but good enough for going out to lunch in :-D

No sun to give it the Carlos glow - but this is what it came out like:

Oh, and as I was putting everything away in the shed - I found my orbital car polishing machine  Typical! But then again, I remember now that I could never work out what colour sponges do what - and I only ever used it on the lowest setting as I heard these things can burn through your paint work! Thinking about it, that's probably why I put it in the furthest corner of the shed in the first place #-o

What is a filament-type sensor, Marc?

Looks fantastic when polished :-D , it's a really nice colour for a X7 and quite rare.

I think it is just in relation to the signal type for the sensor Chris, Digital, Analogue, High Frequency, Body CAN, or Filament as referred to in the electrical connection types for the Alarm system - so basically a simple wired contact switch I guess! Unless of course there are some super Hi Tech components in there, to justify the £60 asking price!

OK. I think that one is just a simple switch.

No, don't say that! I want to be able to think there is some super tech at work! :-D

I was about to show you this one :https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-207- ... Swdg5a2Gk0 but you'd already mentioned the two different part numbers.

Not sure what the difference could be though?

Surely the circuit diagram should give an electrical representation of what type of switch it is?

Looks like a Normally Open push-to-make switch from that diagram.

I suspect it may have a different 'tolerance' if that is the right word to use - I mean the alarm ECU is the same, so I can only assume that there must be something different or why else go to the bother and expense of requesting 2 versions? It would be useful to know if nothing - else just for curiosity. :)
