The cat will not affect the running of the car so long as its not blocked becasue it is downstream of the Lambda sensor, the cat can be removed and nothing will happen....................well you get more power and better economy, but othher than that nothing

Won't the sensors detect no difference before and after the cat and the ECU conclude that the cat is non-functional?

Not on Xantia's as they are not EOBD2 compliant, i.e. they only have one Lamda sensor, EOBD2 car's have a Lambda sensor pre and post cat.

Stlll, if the cat were poisoned, what would the effect be then?

It may fail the emmisions test come mot time, although mine didnt with the cat missing, unfortunatly when they noticed the car had to have a cat by law they failed it for having no cat

New lamda probe fitted, Co2 is now 0.104 instead of 5.27!!! the lambda isnt great but i imagine a good run may help that plus i think theres a blow somewhere.

Hmm well maybe I spoke to soon, seems to be running better and a bit more responsive, overheated on the way home a bit, airlock it seemed, gone now and keeping nice and cool. Quite lumpy though and has cut out a few times which it didnt do before. Whilst on the gas tester the co2 did go down to 0.0!

Will get some new plugs etc and give it a good run.
