A wind-up engine. Now there's an idea...

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

Not actually sure what this was out of, looks more like a car engine than aeroplane but it was at east Midlands aeropark (a few years ago).

Well...that was rather impressive! im guessing she's working with limited tools too as one wouldn't normally use a hammer to install a bearing but she didn't hang around either, im guessing that was a 2 day job? .

She says she gave up her high-paying job to do this sort of thing out in the country.

I was a bit concerned at her hammering bearings on but if that is what she has to do. I would at least have interposed a piece of wood but she seemed to manage.
Have watched some of her other videos, quite impressive and entertaining.

Looks like a Lycoming aero engine. They were twin spark plug boxer engines.

I thought that layout looked reminiscent of a Subaru engine.

I think of the boxer engine as being a "flat" layout, a bit like Porsche & vw air cooled stuff * but my knowledge of these is none existent.

From the archives...first page of the thread the Ariel Square Four gets a mention.

One is up for sale at Dorset Vintage and Classic Auctions on Thurdsday this week, a 1934 incarnation.
That is a Smethwick Registration plate in the traditional County of Staffordshire.

Indeed, often used to get a lift to work on one.
But the better sounding one was his Panther, 600cc single :)
