A while back I posted a picture of a relative's Mercedes EQA. Yesterday I learned an interesting fact about it - it's driver does not trust it to do the "160" mile trip from Fife to Newcastle on one charge.
Given that it is quoted at 263 miles WLTP and most journals reckon a real range of 190/200, what gives him this range anxiety? Well, apparently, when he tries to recharge he often finds that chargers are not working or being used or, in some cases, hogged. He has tried Dunbar, Eyemouth, and various locations in Newcastle to recharge when he visits family down there and has found that Alnwick is the only place he can guarantee to find a charging point. Now, admittedly his heavy right foot driving style won't help, but he feels obliged to recharge on the route down as he just can't guarantee access to a charging point when he arrives.

Northumberlandia today
One Blue Peugeot e 208
One BMW i3
One Mercedes EQA 250
One Hyundai IoniQ
and

One Blue Jaguar I-Pace

Down to fumes on range after finding that the Ionity Chargers just off the A1 at Alnwick were not working. I asked her if the car told her where the nearest chargepoints were as less than 200 metres away were 2 ever reliable Osprey Rapid Chargers outside M&S, and 2 more nearby one at the Leisure Centre and one at the Carpark in town.

Maybe these very expensive cars aren't as clever as they are cracked up to be, or maybe the owners just aren't switched on, or less likely none of the occupants of the car had smart phones to bring up Zap Map.

Charging in Northumberland is very good if not very visible, but I could imagine a microphone shoved in front of the Jag driver might produce "The Charging Network in Northumberland is a nightmare" soundbyte. They had driven past at least half a dozen accessible rapid chargers between Berwick and Northumberlandia, all of which are on Zap Map.

Self inflicted range anxiety

Hong Kong had/has a similar restriction surprisingly enough... Although in their case it was LHD cars...

One unidentifiable thing, on a roundabout, in the dark and rain, only the green flash gave it away.
Unusual as have been out and about quite a bit today.

Edit: A Ssanyong Tivoli* electric. Had to look it up. It was silent and no exhaust pipes.

Popped down to post a parcel this morning and outside our local PO there is room for 5 cars in a row. Today three of the five had green flashes - sign of the times and why I don't post on this thread often. Tesla 3. ID4 and a Mini e :-D

Just so long as you don't see green flashes in the sky!

I have the displeasure of using one of these at work now. It's replaced a 14 plate Vauxhall van like James has. Can't recall the model name!

This article was in the BBC online yesterday but, if you read it, the electric car roll out in Africa was meant to be 4 years ago! Plus VW didn't even think about the poorer road surfaces that it's e-Golf would encounter. It is thinking like this that will hand the EV market to other manufacturers and types of EVs.

I spotted a Tesla Model 3 (22 reg) near to Fleet in Hampshire, in a gloss military green (unusual colour).
