Re: I-Spy Classic Cars-What have you spotted?
Yes the F-type Victor came out in '57 (one of the few cars to suffer from rust in the roof) but that is the later model (without many of the distinctive styling features). Both were available in saloon & estate versions. (Curiously, although we exported them to America, they were also built in Canada as Chevy Envoys). The FB was a different animal altogether.

The early ones had the exhaust coming out through the bumper but it took all the chrome off so they brought it out underneath on the later ones.

I always thought that was a lovely styling touch... I believe it caused the bumper and the structure around it to badly rot - as if it needed any help

Yup, that was one of the styling features of the original that was lost, then there was the 2 ribs at the front of the bonnet, the recessed badge, that curious crease in the back doors . . .

Followed a MkII Jag into, & through, Paignton this morning. Might've "only" been a "240" but an immaculate specimen, ice blue metallic with wires - looked good &, even where cars of that vintage are not uncommon, quite a rare sight - on a wet December saturday morning!

On the way back up to London last Sunday, doing about 90 up the 303 past Exeter Airport & was passed by - 105E Anglebox! "old Fords never die, they just go faster" indeed!
On the M25 this evening (oh, alright - Friday) somewhere around J4 I was passed by a gold NAS XJS convertible with what, in the dark, looked like a fabric covered hardtop. I don't think a hood could be THAT taut!

The XJS club has some extensive galleries of members cars, bit too many to plough through to get a possible match with your spot.
Did discover the model history section which had this comment in....
Later on a proper convertible was developed. The concept of an open top XJ-S was a very early proposition but fears of a US ban on all open top cars stayed it's production. However, the ban never came to fruition and Jaguar were in no position to fully develop a true convertible. So, a compromise was reached whereas a T top or targa roof was quickly designed and developed. Amazingly, this involved taking already completed body shells off the production lines and cutting the roof and buttresses before strengthening the floor section

That would explain the roof - but this one had the later tail lights.
(Shame they didn't realise there was no real need for those flying buttresses in the 1st place.)

Maybe not old enough for some to consider classic but it certainly excited me a lot more than an old MG

Yes, the Xantia is vanishing at a horrific rate, within 10 years the 1.9TD has gone from thousands on the road to tens, it's becoming very rare.

A frequent visitor a while back but much less so in recent years, great forum and people, life just can sometimes get a little fast paced for forum visits.
I hope you are keeping well Peter, still growing that crop of XM's for John down in the field?
