Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
VW ID4 on a green plate, no chance to snap, may get one soon as it was parked on my route to Elstree!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Banzai spotting day on the way back from Elstree earlier!! 2 BMW i3s, 1 Leaf, 2 Tesla model 3s and an SUV Tesla, not sure of the model, the same VW ID4 from the other day and then a green tagged Kia mpv/suv that I didn't see the model. Methinks this thread's objectives may be beginning to wane as the number of EV's rises so quickly!!

Its simple and easy to join in with. Surprised myself at how many views and participators there are. Always something new coming out so keep them peeled! I bagged my first Polestar the other day.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 16:24 Banzai spotting day on the way back from Elstree earlier!! 2 BMW i3s, 1 Leaf, 2 Tesla model 3s and an SUV Tesla, not sure of the model, the same VW ID4 from the other day and then a green tagged Kia mpv/suv that I didn't see the model. My spots at the Weekend ended up in a nice conversation with a Hyundai Kona couple. That's the next stage when you spot one with the driver standing by it, be daring and start up a conversation.
The others were the normals, Tesla's not quite by the score but probably half a dozen. The odd BMW I3 and the usual Leafs, and MGZS EV's

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Well I've seen and posted about these loads of times but here is a sample of today's crop. At the pricy end of the market. To be honest if these monthly example leasing arrangements, don't frighten you for an 8,000 miles/year contract for 3 years, hand the car back at the end, and an initial 6 x rental as a first payment, then just go out and get what you want. Plenty obviously do.
If not then take an interest in the Bargain Basement electric thread, and lower your expectations and avoid the flushing down the toilet of the years 0-3 high depreciation element. Please note the "Only" in the photos is meant to be sarcastic and the price is of course dependant on specification and selected options, just an example of the "ball park".

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
In the case of the Jag that means a capital outlay of £30832 + the cost of electricity for charging. At say 35p per Kw and average (according to Jaguar) of 2.3 miles per kw means total elec cost of £3650ish making the cost of travel £34482 for 24000 miles, so a cost of app. £1.44 per mile travelled. How does that compare with 24000 miles of public transport I wonder?
When I was working for BT in the 80's and had a company car which was an enforced Vauxhall Carlton that I refused to use, they paid me 48ppm to use my own Lancia Delta HF Turbo and Rover 2300S (with the replaced 2600 engine) instead!! Allowing for inflation and general cost changes £1.44 per mile does not seem too bad, especially when you consider that you will be travelling about in your own cosseted comfortable environment rather than braving the weather and disease ridden contacts on public transport.
So if you only want to do 8000 miles a year not a bad option. However if, like me you will do nearer 20000 miles a year, and that's only since I retired, then the monthly costing will rise considerably because of the significant residual value loss which the lessor will suffer with a 60000 mile car to sell rather than a 24000 mile one. I can't be bothered to research the likely cost of a 20000 mile per annum contract but I would expect it to be so much greater £ per mile that it becomes uneconomical. So who's going to prove me right/wrong?

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Its not a choice of Public transport versus a Jag I Pace or a TESLA. Many people including me would simply look at the monthly outgoings, and initial payment and immediately conclude unaffordable. As I said no shortage of takers as the spotters thread confirms and the relative common sight of Tesla's on the road.
For me , I am not in the market for such things, but do take an interest, and quite happy with my Bargain Basement Leaf, and Micra.
Regards Neil

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Naturally someone has to buy or lease new cars so that we can buy them second hand for bugger all and enjoy budget motoring.
I would never be tempted, always had second hand, mostly bangers.
The dearest were the Xantia for £3,500 and the first C5 for £4,000, both over the odds.
All others under £1,000, mostly way under - £40 for the Opel Kadette and £60 for the Renault 4
Those figures would have me running away to hide.

If only you could get a Renault 4 for £60 now There is in the pipepline a new electric Renault 4/ and Renault 5 with at least a nod to the previous incarnations.myglaren wrote: ↑09 Jun 2021, 10:43 Naturally someone has to buy or lease new cars so that we can buy them second hand for bugger all and enjoy budget motoring.

Not quite on the roads for the EV spotting thread, but apparently on the way.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
It is horrible!
The original, like the 2CV, attracted plenty of criticism but was what it was supposed to be, simple and functional and it excelled at that.
The new one is none of that. Falls into the same bracket as the 'new Mini' and so very many others.

The problem with designing new small cars is that the drivers have got fatter.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Renault haven't revealed it yet, and the renditions in that article and elsewhere, are by artist/designers speculating on what it may look like. Renault have announced that another retro model will join the Renault 5 around 2025, and speculation with a bit of insider info across the motoring press, indicates that it is likely to be based on the Renault 4.
As far as the Renault 5 goes Renault have officially revealed their current design and expect it to be in production 2023/24 as mentioned on Car news Global and Domestic here
