Hard to tell but it only takes a very small amount of dirt on those fine wires to throw it out of kilter.

I don't think the dirt is the issue, got my new one today an it has what looks like resistors fitted to the metal prongs in the middle. I'm assuming thats what has burnt out as my old one shows just metal prongs. Was yours the same Tearing??

My old one has what looks like two thin flat plates rather then resistor-looking things, but I suspect it's just a different design - the new one looks similar to your new one. There's definitely something greasy on the plastic support for them (on the old one) - I don't want to touch the sensors, but I suspect they are greasy too. How much that changes the thermal properties... not sure.

It works by (somehow) measuring a temperature difference between the two wires - one heated with a current and the other not. So I guess either the contamination is messing up the rate of change of temperature, or one of the wires isn't connected properly any more. If my new one misbehaves, I'll have a go at cleaning the old one.

I would have more Citroens if I had the space...

That's a remanufactured unit the resistor compensates for whatever failed on it. Hopefully it works for you but I have never had any luck with this type of unit.

What vehicle are you driving darbuck? Is it that bad that resistors won't work? Any information is soooooo much appreciated as these old girls are hard to keep and maintain!!

Had my MOT on Saturday, she's all good, a couple of advisorys. Osr tyre is worn easy replacement and nsf link rod arm is slightly worn, which I knew about as I'm gunna replace the spring as I've done the other side as it snapped, got the parts just no enthusiasm as last time the spring bit me!!! What I was shocked about is that the MOT tester told me that my osr caliper isn't as efficient as the nsr, not an advisory, just a heads up!!! It's amazing how maintaining your car and FCF badge in the windscreen can get you extra info IMO. Not replaced the MAF yet, can't be bothered. I reconnected it for the MOT, emissions was 0.02. Once passed I disconnected again. :-D

Just fitted my £25 MAF to the car and all's well so far. She pulls like a train, I would even say it pulls better than the Transit Sport I used to drive for work. Hopefully it lasts, if not I'll just leave I unplugged
