Hey, I have a problem with my Peugeot 508 4Hybrid, 2012.
VIN: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
After replacing the right rear hub and levers, error P1ABB appeared, which I cannot clear, and associated errors P1ABE, P1ABF, U1318. I tried changing the gearbox position sensor - no change. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have similar problems with my January 2013 508RXH, VIN VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] engine number DYZC4019867 with getting on for 150,000 miles under her belt.

My drive belt tensioner started to get noisy and was jumping around and the fault was diagnosed by my local garage as the bearings in the hybrid generator. I had them replaced by the well-known advertiser on eBay and the unit was refitted by the garage at the beginning of May with a new belt and now it has a myriad of problems. They've re-set the belt counter and cleared umpteen fault codes but still the car plays up after a few hundred metres and then refuses to go into other modes than Auto. Sometimes it limps too and they say it's dropping the turbo. The power flow diagram shows power from the generator to the battery when the car's cold or after the isolation plug (?) on the top right of the inverter is removed and replaced - sometimes to clear the "STOP" message to even get the car to move. They don't have a Peugeot Planet 2000 (Lexia-3) but do have a pretty good diagnostic kit and they've even subscribed to a specialist service which has controlled it remotely. I've a very good relationship with them (see my list of cars!) and they have no problems with me helping them with work on my own cars and they've given me a list of codes they're "struggling with", as follows:-

P1B1B
P1AC4 (1AC4)
U12C6 (D266)
UO167 (C167)

Both they and the specialists they've consulted now suspect the inverter. I can get one from a scrapped car but they've been told that it can't be replaced by a second-hand one because of the immobiliser. The one I can get is from a DS5 so I don't know if there are differences even though the part number is the same.

Any help would be very much appreciated as the garage have had the car since late April and I'm desperate as my lady and I are due to go abroad in her soon.

Here are the descriptors, but in all cases the Hybrid ECU is a suspect.
Fault Code: U0167
Description of Fault: Intersystems CAN: Absence of response to the unlocking request. No response from the built-in systems interface following an unlocking request from the hybrid control ECU 1.

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics
The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- Indicator lamp READY lit
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the "Stop and Start" function
Symptoms:
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Problem activating the power unit
  • Jerking/stalling (Stopping the vehicle)
Suspect Areas:
  • Hybrid control ECU
  • Built-in systems interface
  • Intersystems CAN

Fault Code: U12C6
Description of Fault: Hybrid CAN Control network: Length error or prohibited value of the frame from the hybrid management ECU 2.

Description of the diagnostics: Communication fault between ECUs detected for 0,5 secs.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics

The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- Indicator lamp READY lit
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Ignition on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Driving possible only in combustion mode
  • Loss of the ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) electric mode
  • Loss of the 4x4 function
  • Loss of Sport mode
  • Deactivation of the "Stop and Start" function
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: "SERVICE" warning lamp
Symptoms:
  • Absence of the electric mode
  • Lack of power
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Cutting of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Cutting of cruise control
Suspect Areas:
  • Hybrid control ECU

Fault Code: P1AC4
Description of Fault: Drive train: Failure of the activation of the electromotor sub-assembly.
Description of the diagnostics

The electromotor sub-assembly is not activated after 2 s for a partial activation request or 3 s for a total activation request.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics - The following conditions have to be met:
- Ignition on
- Indicator lamp READY lit
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • 3 activations/deactivations of the electromotor sub-assembly
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the "Stop and Start" function
Symptoms:
  • Problem activating the power unit
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
Suspect Areas:
  • Hybrid control ECU

Fault Code: P1B1B
Description of Fault: Hybrid control ECU 1: Internal fault. The fault appears after 2,5 seconds.

  • Electric drive machine in neutral
  • Switching on of the warning lamp and/or warning message: "SERVICE" warning lamp
Symptoms:
  • Absence of the electric mode
  • Cutting of the vehicle speed limiter
  • Cutting of cruise control
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
Suspect Areas:
  • Hybrid control ECU

Many, many, many thanks.

The obvious questions now are:-

How has refitting the original generator caused all this? At first the faults only seemed to appear when the car began to warm up so could not bleeding the hybrid cooling system properly when first refitting the generator be the cause?

Can a second-hand hybrid control ECU be fitted and, if so, how is it done?

Can a DS5 hybrid control ECU be fitted to a 508RXH?

Unfortunately not. The DS5 has one or 2 similar components, but the ECUs are different. These have specialist requirements and training to work on, so I can't help with that, sorry.
