Hi after cleaning the alternator 5 pin plug and connections on ECU 10pin black connector of the stop/start ECU I have only 1 error U1134 as in the scan photo below can this be due to my replacement stop start capacitor not being added or registered as a new part correctly everything else checks ok or can it be the voltage retention ECU is faulty.

Hi I have now replaced power accumulator and the 1012 Centralised Voltage Maintaining device from the diagram and error U1134 has gone but P1382 & U1133 are still there and come back after you erase them,if deactivate the stop start they stay away, do they need the replacement status reset.
Power accumulator replacement reset status is inactive. I have attached some photos with details.

Here's the specifics for you:

Fault Code: P1382
Description of Fault: Ancillary drive belt : Fault in coherence between the engine speed and the alternator speed. Excessive slipping of the belt detected by comparing the alternator speed with the engine speed (for 5 seconds).
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Automatic restarting impossible following stopping of the engine (Requires restarting of the engine using the ignition key).
Symptoms:
  • Problem with automatic restarting of the internal combustion engine
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
  • Malfunction of the Stop and Start switch or its LED
Suspect Areas:
  • Ancillary drive belt
  • Engine speed sensor
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors

Fault Code: U1133
Description of Fault: LIN : The reversible alternator is confirmed absent. Faults in communication between ECUs on the LIN.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Ignition switched on
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Automatic restarting impossible following stopping of the engine (Requires restarting of the engine using the key).
Symptoms:
  • Problem with automatic restarting of the internal combustion engine
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine
Suspect Areas:
  • Supply of the voltage retention device
  • Reversible alternator supply
  • Electrical harness

This basically means the Local Interconnect Network isn't getting valid data from the Piloted Reversible Alternator.

So how old / how many miles has this done? If the alternator ECU has had it then that will likely need replacing - but check all the wiring and connections to it.
Fault Code: U1332
Description of Fault: LIN : Error in length or prohibited value of the data from the piloted reversible alternator.
  • Malfunction of the Stop and Start switch or its LED
Suspect Areas:
  • LIN

Well I think that's possibly your problem - if you have not replaced it with the correct part number, you'll get issues. These piloted alternators are specific to some stop start systems and the ECU is built in. If you have the incorrect part, the ECU may be incorrectly configured or missing.... which would likely be why the LIN network maybe can't locate it.

Hi ok it is exactly the same part number it was confirmed before I bought it, nothing has been configured or replacement request done for the power accumulator and the 1012 centralised voltage maintaining device could that be the problem.

I've just checked and there is no configuration required of the alternator itself if replaced with the correct part.

This is how the alternator operates on these:

Operation in alternator mode
  • The reversible alternator pulley set in motion by the ancillary drive belt drives the rotor which acts as an inductor.
  • The rotor consists of a permanent magnet and an energising coil supplied continuously with an energising current.
  • The coil, positioned below the permanent magnet, with the energising current passing through it permits the creation of an induction magnetic field.
  • The magnets of the rotor permit channelling of the induction magnetic field.
  • The stator, which acts as a fixed armature, is made up of coils which are subjected to the variations in magnetic fields that produce an alternating current.
  • The alternating current produced is rectified by the power module.
  • The current produced in regulated by acting on the energising circuit using the control module piloted by the engine management ECU.

Operation in starter mode
  • The engine management ECU informs the control module of the engine restart request.
  • The control module sends the information to the power module.
  • The power module consisting of a power transistor (MOSFETS) converts a continuous voltage into a sinusoidal voltage.
  • This sinusoidal voltage passes through the three coils (phases) of the stator producing a rotating magnetic field.
  • This rotating magnetic field produces the electromagnetic torque permitting rotation of the rotor.
  • The control module measures the speed of rotation of the rotor using three Hall effect sensors.
  • The rotor drives the ancillary drive belt via the reversible alternator pulley which drives the restarting of the engine.

Here is the plug assignments and the ones concerning the LIN:

Ok thank you for that details I will check that alternator wires, does the power accumulator and centralised voltage
Maintaining device have to be configured and replacement request done to work properly.

Yes, if the Central Voltage Retaining Device ECU is replaced and the same applies for the Energy Accumulator.

Ok can that be the cause of the errors U1133 & P1382 because this has not been done yet.

It's hard for me to say from here, I can only advise of the potential suspects as per the codes. All the procedures for replacing and reinitialising these units should be completed from Diagbox on refitting them. However your P1382 fault does say there is a discrepancy between the engine speed and the alternator speed - which will prevent automatic engine restart. So I would certainly start there by checking the belt is tensioned correctly and also worth considering whether you have fitted a used alternator that itself was faulty.....

Hi thank you for that details I did have that error before I got the alternator replaced and the U1133 I got the timing belt replaced and the alternator at the same time so I think the timing belt would be tensioned correctly maybe that Engine speed sensor is faulty where is it located.
