Well, I'm flummoxed.
I got the gasket leak test kit this morning, and had it on the car for a good twenty minutes all told. It slowly bubbled on idle and faster on rev-ing and sturbornly remained blue. It turns yellow in the presence of exhaust gases. The rear camshaft sensor gets coated in emulsion, although the front always seems clean. The occassional misfire has disappeared although that tends to be intermittent.
I'll run the test again tomorrow but I am at a loss about what to do next, if anything.

The gunky stuff may be condensation in the top of the engine how do you use the car , stop start trips ? Or long runs ?
I'd check the vacuum system any pipe that helps with that system make sure its not blocked or even has any moisture in them , try the glass jar, water & pipe for bubble test , youtube has videos of this ,

Hi, I'm wondering if you've got this problem sorted? My car is presenting very similar symptoms, incl P0014 fault code, although it doesn't hesitate to start but it's undrive-able until it warms up. Same 1.6l vti.

Re: 207cc lumpy starting.
Sorry for the very late responce, got distracted by other events.
Got the car running eventually but would be lying if I said I fixed it.
As I said I replaced the spark plugs, coils, oil valve sensors, cleaned the Air flow butter fly valve, cleaned/change O2 sensors. All had a small improvement but none were a cure. The bad oil seems to have been condensation from lack of use. However, simply using the car more seemed to help.
Hope you got your car runnung ok.
