Re: DS5 suspension
Have a look at the new SUV range. C3 and C4 and DS7, of which some models will have the new hydraulic cushions for suspension Rick. Might be worth checking a few out and holding on until these come into the second hand market.

Re: DS5 suspension
I like the look of the ds7 marc, but by the time they get on the used market, my DS5 will be pretty much worthless!. I've a tight budget and the VW CC looks the business from Autotrader pics. The garage is litterally three minutes from my house. They bare looking for under £11000 so I'm tempted. I'd miss the hatchbak though. They also have a Skoda Octavia 2.0 VRS hatch, but it looks a bit to boy racerish for my taste. The garage is called "12 London Road"

Re: DS5 suspension
Hi,
Last year I bought Sachs dampers for my DS5 and replaced the rear ones. Ride quality improved a bit, but not too impressed, managed to get rid of the awful noise from taking patholes with the back of the car. Later in the year I decided to replace the front ones as well with Bilstein B4. Got rid of the vibration on the wheel on uneven surfaces and also improved the ride quality a lot. I will replace the back ones (currently Sachs) with Bilstein B4 sometimes this year, because I'm very impressend on how Bilstein B4 works on the front of the car.
Need to mention that I have big 19' alloys, so probably with 18' or 17' and with Bilstein B4, the car would drive great and would be quite comfty.
I keep my tyre pressure at 2.5-2.6 on the front wheels and 2.2-2.3 on the back ones. If you go les on the front, like 2.3-2.4 the car becomes preety comfty but feels like a boat
Any questions, let me know.

Re: DS5 suspension
After looking around for a suspension upgrade for my DS5 I finally bit the bullet when a front spring snapped. I change my rear shocks for Sachs at £88 for the pair & Kilren springs that are made by Sachs (same company). It doesn’t skip across the road anymore but just get a little wiggle which feels much safer. I also change the front springs for lesjofors which is also Sachs. This has improved the front just a little. I also replaced the bearings & rubber housings. It feels like a different car and drives like new.

Re: DS5 suspension
From what I’ve read elsewhere the later version were different dampers and gave a far better ride and were a straight swap from the earlier models. Someone mentioned parts and fit around £250

Re: DS5 suspension
I had come to the conclusion that all modern cars had a bone shaking ride - until I drove a C5 X7 with steel springs! Remarkable, on small irregularities it rides better than my past hydropnumatics and it is so quiet.
I've had problems already but I will forgive it that for the ride.

Re: DS5 suspension
That was my supposition too until I was in my Son-In Law's Audi A5. Very compliant suspension - this was on fairly rough country roads near Teesside airport..Peter.N. wrote: 02 Sep 2019, 09:59 I had come to the conclusion that all modern cars had a bone shaking ride - until I drove a C5 X7 with steel springs! Re: DS5 suspension
I have DS5 2.0HDI 163hp automatic 2011. year, bought it last year, and rear oem suspension is very uncomfortable for a ride. I swapped rear dumpers with official later upgrade (Sachs) and results are much better, definitely worth upgrading as it odes not cost much but you get improvement. What I have done also to improve ride quality is mounting on my r18 rims tyres with higher profile, instead of 235/45 I mounted 225/50, definitely worth for lower quality roads.

Re: DS5 suspension
Yes indeed. I was expecting it to be rubbish after all the negative comments and was very pleasantly proved wrong.
Apparently there are various trim options and he was lucky with his - a 3L V6.
The 'S'- line is said to be particularly rough. Don't know what his is.
My daughter hates having to use it, she tries to stick to her MX5, which I do find a bit harsh but is one of the few cars she can drive due to spinal injuries, along with her ancient Escort cabriolet, which I agree is quite nice.
Oddly and equally unexpected was bencowell's Hyundai Genysis. Goes like stink and has almost Citroen like suspension.
Very luxurious (and expensive)

Re: DS5 suspension
Some VAG stuff is not so harsh as expected. My Seat Leon has a quite acceptable ride, better now that I have ditched the 245/40x18 Chinese ditchfinders on what I think were audi wheels, and they were stretched on and fitted a set of narrower 225/45x17 wheels which came off a mates skoda Octavia. It also at the moment has my toolbox in the boot, it is fairly heavy and that helps it too. In fact I would go as far as saying it is as good as anything I have owned, apart from gabby. I am always wondering if I can make gabby's leather seats into the leon. I have done a few miles in daughter 1s leon this last week, it is on 205/60x16 I think and it's good too.

Re: DS5 suspension
One of the highest rated cars for comfort is the Skoda superb, I have never tried one but all the reports show that it comes in the top 10 best riding cars, they are VW based so it seems they can make a comfortable car. Has anyone here driven one?
When I first saw the C5 I immediately noticed the 17" wheels and thought the ride on this is going to be rubbish so driving it amazed me even more, but in its defence they are 225.55.17s so there is still a reasonable amount of meat between the car and the road - I wonder what it would be like on 15" wheels?

Dusting off an old thread in hope of improving the ride quality on the wife's 2014 DS5 that needs its front struts replaced. Its a good opportunity to replace both the front and rear shockers to possibly improve the ride.FlorinB wrote: 10 May 2019, 23:01 Last year I bought Sachs dampers for my DS5 and replaced the rear ones. Its a town car mostly used as her shopping trolley, ride quality at <80km/h is much more important than taught handling at high speeds.
Did you, or anyone else, ever try the Bilstein B4's on all four corners?
Does the DS5 have a better low speed ride than with Sachs (314934) on the rear and Bilstein B4 up front?
Has anyone tried the KYB Excel-G Shock on all four corners?

Re: DS5 suspension
On 2nd set of ori front shock (rear changed to Sachs) and they are still rubbish except on perfect road surface. The low speed ride quality is absolutely unacceptable.CC1701 wrote: 02 Nov 2021, 10:53Dusting off an old thread in hope of improving the ride quality on the wife's 2014 DS5 that needs its front struts replaced. Koni did a set for DS5 back then but quickly discontinued it. Expensive but for sure it's good or much better.
Would love to know whether Bilstein B4 or KYB shocks able to provide pliant ride to DS5.

Re: DS5 suspension
Which ones did you get as i cant seem to be able to find the ones for the DS5 (Citroen DS5 2012 that is). Even in the Bilstein website there isnt an option for DS5. There is for DS3 but not DS5
