Well, it 6 o'clock in the morning and I'm sat on the train at Preston for the first leg of the journey down to Plymouth, leg one is Preston to Birmingham New St, then the second leg is Birmingham to Plymouth.
Once the Xantia is collected the plan for the return journey is Plymouth to Newport Pagnall (CitroJims) then Newport Pagnall to Preston.
As I say that's the plan..........

Thanks for your detailed report by PM Jim, that makes me very comfortable about the MOT and the car in general - a few maintenance items like spheres and a couple of minor repairs but otherwise very sound indeed.
Incredibly excited now! The jobs you listed are the kind of jobs I enjoy doing, (I plan to have the cruise fixed this weekend all going well...) not the enigmatic insolvable problems that I have been battling with for the last 1.5 years...
More importantly the overall condition of the car gives a sound base that makes it worth the time and effort to fettle all the little niggles. On the current one I had really started to feel like I was just rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic...
PS Jim could you PM me the S1 cruise control wiring diagrams some time before the weekend ? Unfortunately Sedre doesn't cover S1 Xantia's so I'm a bit lacking in wiring diagrams for the new beast (I'm sure its similar to the S2 but the devil is in the details when trying to trace a fault!)

What I love about this forum is the lengths members will go to in order to help each other out. There may be a lot of tongue in cheek ribbing and mickey taking, but it is all in good fun, never knowingly malicious (and I bet apologies come forward rapidly when offence happens), lots of good advise (in spite of me!), and, as I have already said, willingness to help each other out.
Simon, I reckon you owe a few people lots of brownie points. Watch out for numerous taxi requests in your new V6!

I agree James, the generosity of the regulars on this forum is incredible, I already felt indebted to everyone before this for all the help with the previous car, now I'm really in debt!
On the plus side with a good car I'll be less afraid to travel long distances which means being able to help a bit further afield with the Lexia and perhaps the occasional (and first!) appearance at a get together.

No worries on the S1 cruise diagrams Simon as they are slightly different to the S2 and the differences are critical. I'll do them in the morning..
Simon, meant to say in the PM that the paintwork, except where it's scraped, is really good. It still has that deep shine of a much newer car and the tailgate - where the first signs of deterioration are often seen on an S1 - is perfect...
We believe the car has been dry-stored. You'll be amazed at just how few miles it's covered in the past few years!

Simon, you appeared slightly disappointed the new V6 didn't have a boot spoiler. Well, you have a spoiler on 'Problem Child'. If you wanted you could take that one off (assuming it would fit the new V6), make up a pair of templates for the mounting holes, and get ready to use that one. If the paintwork is as good as Jim says (it will be!), I doubt you would be happy leaving the scuffs alone. Getting them sorted would improve the look no end (and DHallworth said he knows somebody who does fantastic work at sensible prices), as well as give you a chance of winning prizes at Citroen get-togethers (Gracie has no chance; her owner is normally so scruffy she is scruffy by association!), so it wouldn't be a major task to get the spoiler re-sprayed to the right colour and fitted at the same time the other paintwork was being dealt with.
The way I would make the templates is so simple I cannot believe that a, I came up with it, and b, it would work. Make up 2 identical 'L' shaped wooden templates (I would use a hard wood, as they could be re-used by other forum members if required). Make sure that when they are lying down lengthways they are long enough to reach the full depth of the spoiler (fore and aft), while the tail is high enough to engage the tail end of the boot lid. Remove the spoiler, and clamp each template firmly in place on the underside of the boot lid (with the vertical tail hard up against the tail edge of the boot). Mark them clearly 'Left' and 'Right'. Now, using a slow drill tool, and with a drill bit only slightly smaller then the mounting holes, drill the tooling holes through the templates. Release the templates and (carefully) widen the holes to the correct width. That should be job done.

Simon may, or may not agree with me when he sees the car, but I think the S1 V6 in Silex grey has cleaner lines than the S2, and actually looks better without a boot spoiler.
