Looking very good on the engine front.

One thing I noticed:

The blockwork in your garage? That is rough man.

I have a question for the experts...

Managed to dismantle the steering rack and there are four grooves in the "axis" and only three seals in the repair kit. Is one seal missing or it's that the way it should be?

Blockwork - I'm sure most of us would be thrilled to have a space like that with a 2 post lift to work in - rough block work or not [-o<

Pinion valve - that's right I think - make sure you put them back in the same place or all sorts of odd things might happen!

Has anyone a credible source for torque settings when fitting the cylinder head back to the block? I have looked several sources (Autodata, Haynes,...) and the settings are different, so now I am in a dilemma which is the correct one... Some sources say 20Nm, 75Nm, 90°, some 35Nm, 70Nm, 160°...

Getting it back together. Step by step... Changed piston rings, piston rod bearings, crankshaft oil seals, head gasket, head seals, head cover gasket...

Image

About to fit the timing belt and I have a question... I recently changed the damper pulley with a new (not original) one and I don't know if the timing hole in the pulley is positioned correctly. How do I do it without the pulley in place? Or if someone could tell me the angle between "pin" and hole...

Image

And another thing... When I took the gearbox out I noticed that the "push" bearing is missing one clip. I didn't noticed any difference when changing gear and I am wondering if the bearing would be OK for refitting since it was changed about 6 months ago... #-o

I just been reading this thread today. You haven"t mentioned honing the bores before refitting the pistons. I hope you have, as the new rings might not bed in with the old polished surface. Whereas if honed, preferably with a"Flexihone", they definately will, and quickly too.
A company called "Pacehigh"(.co.uk)they"re just north of London, sell them. Different sizes, Grades etc. Just tell them, Bore size and ring material, ie chrome or cast, and they"ll advise as necessary.
If you haven"t done it already, I would seriously recommend it.

I didn't hone the bores because a mechanic said it wasn't necessary...

When I figure out how to time the valves without the damper pulley (still looking for advice) I will measure compression pressure on each cylinder to see if everything is ok.

The hone marks on lots of stripped engines are still visible rather than bores polished. This may have been what your mechanic saw. It is always better to hone I think with new rings mind you.
If a new release bearing isn't too expensive, it may be peace of mind fitting new one.

A new bearing is ordered (70eur) just as you said for a peace of mind...

Well since I have everything together I won't strip everything apart. Fingers crossed it will last [-o< or I will take a can of gasoline and burn the damn thing!

Well some progress in the research... I found this picture and it shows where to lock the flywheel. It's the same position as it should be on the crankshaft pulley. Yipikaye! 8-)
