) and have a bit of industrial history delve, which I always enjoy

The humble brick, preserved and secured in a glass display cabinet, they wouldn't have thought that when they came out of the kiln!

With incidental talk of Woodbines over on the whatsthisthen? thread, as an appreciator of graphic art and design the cigarette packet, in all its various brandings and forms was a memorable thing from an artistic point of view, not so much the product it contained.

The more familiar form of the woodbine packet is on the left, the more unusual tipped version on the right

Don’t get me started, 1962, bought my first packet of five Nelsons. I bought Nelsons ‘cos I think they were the only ones sold in fives.

We used those tobacco tins for keeping nuts and bolts in - even if we didn't smoke. It seemed that everybody had at least one. Same with OXO tins, I still have one or two although the writing seems to have mostly dissapeared.

As an update to previous Carbon Paper shenanigans on the thread, I bought a new pack today...last one in the shop, and the assistant had to dig it out for me from a pile of other items, as she felt sure there was one left.

Here it is, confirmation that you can still buy it, if you know where to ask.

Wasn't sure where to post this, coincidences or train buffs but this will do. I found out something I wasn't expecting today about the Hornby Fireman Sam train set from the late 80s.

in particular the kid on the box playing with the set.

it turns out he's my mate at work!!! His mother still has the first set thankfully because it's very rare. The downside is he told me, loads of ribbing to come from me and secondly he doesn't look like that anymore.
