Do you know what the one under the snow with the lady in the pic is Gibbo? Still havent given up on a positive ID on the other one yet, but pretty much stuck!

One of the best collections of photographs of a car like our red one I have randomly come across on the internet, is from one of our own forum members. Maybe a bigger clue than the pics!

Mid to late 80s Neil,

The container in the background of this one was only bought after I closed the shop in 1984 and used for my forecourt shop, the lady is my mate's wife who worked for me at the time.

Now if you brushed a bit of snow off that one would it reveal a double headlight...extracted from here

I had to look up the engine details for the 3-litre, and was surprised to find it had essentially the same lump as the Austin-Healey 3000. I do hope it wasn't as agricultural!
And to read that a V8 version was considered. Would the Rover have fitted under there?
The Hydrolastic must have given quite something of a ride.
I do remember seeing a few (as staff cars) in both Army green and Air Force blue.

Sobering to see, in Neil's link, the paper-thin and unprotected sill sections - a Leyland speciality.

The engine performed well but then I've never been a boy racer type, the suspension was fabulous, it had an Armstrong self leveling system which unfortunately was a bit prone to leaks but only needed a few turns with a spanner to cure

Didn't have any sill rust troubles on mine but it rotted behind the headlamps until they fell out and the backplates had to be rebuilt, no under wing shields in those days, if there had been I guess there would be a lot more survivors.

I can't recall having any serious mechanical problems, it just kept going.

Ps. Same engine as the MGC.

Actually - IIRC - the Austin 3 litre engine was, if anything, even more agricultural than the Healey/BGC, having been lifted straight out of the Westie.

Saw one probably a couple of months ago now, black (unusual in itself - did the Navy use them as well?) indifferent condition, fully laden, can't remember where but leaving some event.

Anyone else who was at the NEC at the w/e catch the prototype Princess "Landcrab"?
