...and so to the most difficult line in To Autumn to capture photographically
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
Other lines from the poem to inspire contributions.
"Mellow Fruitfulness", "To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees","plump the hazel shells with a sweet kernel",
"later flowers for the bees until they think warm days will never cease", "While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day and touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue" , "The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft","and gathering swallows twitter in the skies.", "Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn"

We had a great evening out at a local pub with a tribute band and it was a really excellent evening:
Sunset as we arrived
Sunset as we arrived
The moon came up through the trees

On came the group
On came the group
We hadn't realised there were two groups but no sign of Cliff!! :-D

Following yesterdays little drive out across the border, I have more than enough pictures to complete this gallery, but POTD is all about regular contributions from many members to thrive. I have dealt with the difficult "Gnats" imagery, but leave it to others to complete the gallery.

Four more slots on the to fill, see if you can come up with some images which capture the essence of the autumn season, and a bonus would be fitting them in with the lines of Keats' evocative poem.

I do think my sky pictures posted earlier here do qualify under the 'While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day and touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue' category although the 'stubble plains' part may not be emulated as foreseen by Keats. :-D

I lost some interest in poetry at about 8 years old when the teacher gave us a poem to learn then recite to the classroom next door the following week, she gave me The Song of Hiawatha, I struggled through a few verses before they decided the torture should end. :(

Turning into Poets Corner.
Saw a couple on the ARRSE site but they would probably be rather offensive for this forum.

Someone had to say it!! When we were working a 9 day fortnight back in the late 70's it took on an extra meaning because I used to make my short day a Friday and hence go home at 4pm. Thus we worked 8 x 8.5 hour days and 1 x 7 hour day to make up the 75 hour fortnight equivalent to 2 x 37.5 hour weeks! :-D

Time for some more Spring photos (Southern Hemisphere of course)!

We had hot weather in August, and the Prunus (Peach, Nectarine etc.) blossom came out early and was gone very quickly. Fortunately the Apple blossom was not fooled (we have had multiple frosts in September), and is in full bloom now!

Here's a gratuitous shot of a Crimson Rosella at our makeshift feed dish. Their colours seem brighter in spring.

Righto - I need to get this finished - a lot happening in the next week - our town is hosting the National Orienteering Championships, and we are billeting about 8 people - 3 adults plus kids.

So here are a few more Spring related photos - all taken today.

Diamond Firetail Finch - never seen one except in a cage, & there it was sitting on a rock outside our bedroom this morning. I recommend a couple of clicks to enlarge the photo so you can appreciate what an extraordinary little bird this is.

Masked lapwing (Plover) - they nest on the ground and have to be very aggressive to keep the cats & foxes at bay

And finally, a little bird that I felt very lucky to have spotted & photographed at home - but at the local recycling centre they seem to be practically in plague proportions, nesting in the roof - it's called a "Striated Pardalote".
