Looked more pinky-purple in the flesh than the (phone) camera image has captured unfortunately

Ah, yes The Season of mists and Mellow Fruitfulness Gallery was a bit Northern Hemisphere specific.
Hang on a couple of minutes and the "Oh to be in the Southern Hemisphere now that Spring is here" gallery will be created. :-D

From Keats "To Autumn" to Robert Browning "Home Thoughts from Abroad" (with a bit of falcon paraphrase) for the Spring Gallery from the Southern Hemisphere

Thus "Oh to be in England the Southern Hemisphere now that April September is here"

As Southern Hemisphere Correspondent in Chief Alec, the burden of supplying the content may rest entirely on your shoulders, but I am sure you can come up with the goods. :-D Just 8 more to fill in!

Hmm - how about "First cuckoo of spring"?
Shining Bronze Cuckoo-45014.jpg
Or the Echidnas who had an assignation in my shed (got one out, thought the other would follow, but a later check showed them both back in the shed, despite my intervention)?

Or how about the trees that came down near the house in an early spring gale?

Then there's the evaporation dish from under the fridge - turned bright orange and stank like rotten potatoes. Took days to get rid of the smell - if my wife hadn't been away for work I reckon she would have gone and stayed in a motel.

I'm not sure if our swallows migrate, but they only re-appeared recently. Sorry the TV aerial was so far away.

This one's not strictly mine - my wife took it at work (in Central Australia). The lizard is a Bearded Dragon, and it's the little girl's pet (not dinner :) ). The orange colour is it's natural skin colour.

Here's a weird one - one of our dams has turned maroon - it's a floating water weed that has completely covered the water surface:

My wife swears this peony hardly ever flowers - well this year it has had 3 perfect flowers. Note the hover fly parked on one of the petals:

That'd better do - time for bed!

I was hoping that the gallery would be built over several days Alec, didn't expect it all filled in in one post.
As a result I'm going to pick out a couple from your post and shove them in for now, and give the space to add some more as September progresses to the end.

More fool me Neil! I sat up far too late last night putting the post together - all those empty spaces in your table seemed to trigger something :).

I may add some more flowers and birds later :) - yesterday I finally managed a photo of a (yellow faced) honeyeater that's been teasing me in a high tree, & I also have recent shots of a black-faced cuckoo-shrike and a pardelote. Irises are blooming, but I've missed all the fruit trees in blossom.

and much appreciated Alec, an excellent set of photo's with stories behind all!

The Northern Hemisphere Autumn Gallery still has many spaces to fill. Some excellent pictures of night skies but not specifically autumnal could be anytime of the year. I'm looking for pictures to literally capture the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness. Some way off the falling leaves and the autumn colours in the trees, but plenty of fruitfulness and mists to capture :-D

Some of the other imagery in "to Autumn" could be reflected in the gallery and for number 3 "close bosom friend of the fading sun" fits in with Matts picture although the subject is behind the houses!

Other lines from the poem to inspire contributions.
"Mellow Fruitfulness", "To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees","plump the hazel shells with a sweet kernel",
"later flowers for the bees until they think warm days will never cease", "While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day and touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue" , "The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft", "and gathering swallows twitter in the skies."

Reptile of the day - a Blue Tongue Lizard.
Blue tongue-45211.jpg
My wife found this little cutie on the paving (my photo) - probably cold as it wasn't able to do much to show it's displeasure apart from poking out it's oversize tongue. About a handspan nose to tail.

Here's a preview of what you should be able to see at 7:19pm (your time) - minus the eucalypts in the foreground of course!

And here's what it should look like a couple of hours after moonrise - all the yellow colour should be gone (I have not played with colour at all in my photos), and it should be much clearer. Close inspection of the top edge might reveal some craters...
