Re: Classic car spring/summer season 2016-What have you spotted?
And High Legh, eh? I had the dubious honour of having been sacked by the family-owner/manager of that garden centre. Worked there for a few weeks as a student (vacation job) in about 1970. Said owner had a freind's seventeen-year-old daughter who also worked there, who was a bit of a tease (to put it mildly) . . . and I got the blame! Feudal loyalties, and all that: sacking her just wasn't an option.
I had a flat in an old farmhouse in Heatley (Four Lane Ends, in Stage Lane). Could wake up in the morning, and watch longboats progressing down the Bridgwater Canal, which was about 100m away, and on a level with our bedroom window. Not bad accommodation for £7 a week. Petrol, iirc, was 4 gallons for £1. Did have to cross the Warburton Toll Bridge every day, on my way to Padgate, paying to cross a dried-up river bed (Google it). Alphonse, who collected the tolls, ran a DS, usually parked there. His normal daily headgear was a beret!
Postscript
The seventeen-year-old daughter wasn't without her compensations though. Her father was a Prison Officer at Appleton, Cheshire. Daughter and mum were both into horses (jumping variety), and dad - under quiet protest - would have to tow the damned horsebox everywhere. Until lately, he had done this with a 1960 Rover 3-litre (P5), until it just stopped running. He then put it in his garage, and left it there.
A week before my sacking - perfect timing, looking back - I firstly fixed his ancient Land Rover, so he could tow again, and then walked away having bought the Rover for £45. A new set of big-end shells, and she was good as new - almost. Not many students in the 'sixties ran Rover 3-litres. Happy days.

I don't know if this is a classic, but it is a bit loud. Spotted this morning in Winchester. There was a website address on the rear wing; flipout.co.uk

As my gentle little cartoon on Pictures of the Day hinted its been like the Mary Celeste on French Car Chat recently, always pleased to see your posts Jim so welcome back and I echo what others have said on your blog, although from a selfish point of view I have missed your usual interest and responses to the stuff and nonsense I post upCitroJim wrote:I like itHell Razor5543 wrote: http://s1033.photobucket.com/user/james ... o.jpg.htmlA hi-viz Roller... On the local Freecycle list a guy is offering two large posters of this:

Yes, the likeness is uncanny Chris. I know I'm always very cautious when I see one when on my bike... Only the Range/Land Rover Chelsea Tractor things are a worse cycling hazard..
In fact I'm wary of anything carrying four rings on it's grille and actually anything German... A generalisation as there is the occasionally exception to those rules...

As I said, the only one worth a photo on my walk, compared to all the bread and butter stuff, mind you I'm surprised at how many one and two year old cars are sitting in social housing driveways.
