Agree with that. Seems that no matter how carefully you bleed the system, there's always some air lurking somewhere, which only normal running chases out.

As Alan Bennett famously said (approximately) in his 'Beyond the Fringe' Sermon:
"LIfe, you know, is very much like a tin of sardines . . . You open the tin, take out the contents, and enjoy them - the Good Things in life. But you know, no matter how hard you try, there's always a little bit in the corner you can't get out.
Life's like that you know. Is there a Little Bit in the corner of your life? I know there is in mine . . . "

Thanks chaps, I will go with the trapped air theory and just check it again in a few days time. :)

It does remind me once again though that my low coolant warning is defective by design which, after now having had both a leaking radiator and a leaking heater matrix in a short space of time, really annoys me. Maybe its time to get hold of a three pin plug and do the wiring modification I figured out a while ago. Getting at the wiring near the bitron to splice into would be a right bugger though. :x

Well I've had a nice catch upon your blog Simon, good to hear that you've avoided any long term damage and sounds like you're there on the hot running / coolant bleeding issues [-o<

The lack of a warning light for coolant level I'm aware of thanks to the forum, not a problem for me on any of my diesels but I wonder if it's possible to fit a simpler device inside the expansion tank to detect a level drop :?: either a electrical / manual / audible device ... must be someone with an idea to try....I would initially try fitting a clear pipe so that you could see the presence of coolant but that would still require a visual check

I feel like a V6 / Activa stalker

Nothing wrong with stalking Xantias with V6 or Activa configuration, as they are nice vehicles, but to make things easier for you try stalking either DHallworth or Stickyfingers' Xantias. They are Activas brought up to V6 spec.

no, I want him to suffer. :)

If I had found a good 2ltr Activa at the time it would be a different story however :)

A TCT Activa with a manual boost controller goes very well indeed and if you can get the ECU tweaked to remove the boost limit they go even better ;)

Not as lovely as a V6 but not far off :) Fuel consumption is possibly nowhere near as good as a V6 though

Well there is one about, Phil (recently passed) from Whitepost garage had a 2ltr TCT with these mods.

His estate "disposal" to me seems to of been "questionable"....I suspect , unless proved "wrong" that an "inside job" has been done to obtaine spares/cars/tools etc....all suspicion of course with no accusation made toward anyone.

I do hope the information I have is false.

Well another week has passed since the level was found to be low and needed topping up and this time the level, measured on a cold morning is still half way up the tank - about in line with the seam on the bottle where it should be, so I think that confirms it was only trapped air finding its way out over the first few days driving! =D>

I've certainly had no temperature related problems since the thermostat change, it barely if ever goes much above 80 on the gauge now and stays above 75 as well so it seems to be regulating the temperature to a lot narrower range than it did before.
