I've noticed the alternator belt has chafed thro some wiring which seems to run to sensors in the offside of the radiator. Have not had car long and haven't noticed any problems yet.Does any one have any ideas please.

The sensor on the radiator will be to kick the fan on when the temp is hot enough.
Take the plug off, there may be three teminals. Short them out 2 at a time, and your fan should come to life.
If it has 3 there will be probably 2 fan speeds.
Keep everything out of the way for the fan to rotate!!!!!!
Make sure you resolder/ repair or you could overheat in traffic this summer.
I cant believe you have this problem, the belt has chafed thro' some indicator wiring on our 205 today!!

Sorry to but in but wont this 405 turbo diesel by Bitron controlled so the 2 fan sensors ( Brown for Bitron & Blue for the gauge) will be screwed in to the thermostat housing.
The sensor in the radiator will be for the low coolent level warning lamp.
The Bitron system controls the cooling fans, aircon & the high temperature & STOP warning lights.

First thing first. My 405 does not have air conditioning.
According to Haynes the thermostatic switch is in LHS of radiator as I said.
Butif it has aircon then the cooling fan is controlled by the Bitron sensor which is in the thermo housing, but some of the later models have the sensor back in the radiator as previous! ALLEGEDLY!![:0]
