thought I would remind myself of the MOT rule regarding DPF and visible smoke.
8.2.2.1. Exhaust emission control equipment
Defect
(d) Exhaust on a vehicle fitted with a diesel particulate filter emits visible smoke of any colour

Major . Sorry not very good at this quoting stuff. Would that include the 05-06 as above?

Re: MOT Questions
From the current MOT Guidance
1) "You need to inspect MIL fitted to diesel vehicles including hybrids with 4 or more wheels and first used on or after 1 July 2008"
As your car was registered before this date, it should not apply, according to the latest MOT manual.
2) "Test procedure - vehicles manufactured in or after 1980
Vehicles manufactured in or after 1980 must be tested for exhaust smoke using an approved diesel smoke meter. Make sure you follow the smoke meter manufacturer’s instructions.
When testing automatic transmission, you might want to check the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions so that you do not overheat the transmission system. Avoid unnecessary engine acceleration or prolonged high revving of the engine.
Before the test, check the maximum smoke level limit for the vehicle and enter the required details into the diesel smoke meter.
The maximum smoke level limit will be the level displayed on the manufacturer’s plate; or where there is no manufacturer’s plate information:
For vehicles first used before 1 July 2008, the maximum level is:
2.5m-1 for a non-turbocharged engine
3.0m-1 for a turbocharged engine"
Again, as your car was first used before 01/07/2008, the smoke limit is in bold above - otherwise they will use the info on the vehicle plate.

Re: MOT Questions
So what about 05-06 with dpf fitted? Would that be a fail if showing smoke or are they exempt from that rule? If I'm asking then I bet there's loads out there thinking of asking.
