Trying to add a picture on the POTD I encountered an error 'attachment quota reached'
I worked round it by using the img tool to embed the image of the 385 bus!

Thanks Marc, in future is embedding better than attaching?

Re: Attachment quota reached error
We prefer to have the images attached Mick, so they are preserved. It's just a setting we have to monitor every now and then and adjust as necessary.

Re: Attachment quota reached error
I have actually made a bit of progress this week for moving to the new server. So just hold on.

Re: Attachment quota reached error
So how do you attach an image rather than embed an image?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Attachment quota reached error
There is a guide here
But simply put, go to the "Full Editor & Preview" below the text box, click the "Attachments" tab and use the "Add Files" button to find the image on your drive, or drag an image into the text box.
Place your cursor where you want the image to appear, go to the foot of the page and click the "Place Inline" button (which many seem to skip so the images just get chucked in at the end).
Best to preview before posting. And zoom the image as they often 'fall over' especially mobile phone photo's.
In which case, delete the image, go to your original image and open it and use your image viewer to tilt it one way or the other, then save it in the correct orientation and re-upload it. Sounds arduous but takes only a minute.

Re: Attachment quota reached error
I still don't know what this difference, as discussed here, between embedded and attached is. To me they're almost synonyms. And both refer to uploading an image to the forum's servers. The deprecated alternative (which uses virtually no server space here) is to post a link to an image which is hosted elsewhere - and is subject to that site's possible closure or deletion.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Or charging for the service, as Photobucket tried to do (losing a lot of clients in the process).Paul-R wrote: ↑01 Sep 2023, 09:41 I still don't know what this difference, as discussed here, between embedded and attached is. Re: Attachment quota reached error
An attachment is an image file that is uploaded to our server and regularly backed up.
The term "embedded" is a bit ambiguous, but in this case it refers to an image that is hosted on an external site and linked so that it displays in- line on our site.
We occasionally do a sweep of externally hosted images and take a backup, in case they later disappear, but this process is best-effort and such images sometimes get lost.
Our problem with server space is temporary, so keep attaching images where possible.
