£1.89 for diesel yesterday here.

This is where the Connected Live Services kick in for those with Connected Nav systems, as it shows the fuel station prices - so useful for those in larger towns and cities. This helped yesterday as on the way to the dentist the gulf station was showing as £1.69, but Tesco was still at £1.54, so topped up there!

They need to cut the fuel duty immediately and significantly otherwise the country will soon come to a standstill at this rate.

I saw that the output from (IIRC) Saudi was being increased to offset the Russian problem which should reduce prices.

Judging by the amount of traffic down here today it seems that few people are bothered about the price.

Went into Tesco Axminster yesterday and they didn't have any diesel.

Typical!!! I knew about the likely change to fuel duty today but forgot and went and filled up at 1.81.9/litre. 43.24 litres cost me £78.65. Had I left it till tonight I could have saved £2.16 !!! Not even enough for a pint so I can't really say I'm that bothered. Plus of course by filling this morning I avoided a day of EV style range anxiety!!

Can you use it as fuel in a diesel engine?

Kerosene is a lighter oil and has none of the additives used in diesel, so does not have the required lubricants. Using this will likely cause fuel component failure, including fuel pump, seals and gaskets as examples.

Older diesels will run on various 'heating oils' with varying success. The main issue is that you can't get caught using non DERV fuel in most road-going vehicles with only a very limited number of exceptions........
