I can tell you Steve. It was one of those times when I wished I was in one of my Series 1 Xantia diesels. They never stop even if the battery dies.
This was gradually shutting down. It was pretty scary given the weather I was driving in. The windscreen wipers slowed right down.
I would prefer to refurb but where can I get the brushes, slip rings, regulator/rectifier?
Would you happen to know?
I do have an HC Cargo account but Citroen doesn’t come up on their spares.

Hi Rhothgar,
I had a mark 1 Xantia for 4 yrs, was a good car, but prefer the HDi, had it over 11 yrs now.
In terms of parts, if there is no joy with Harry Bucklands or normal places like eurocarparts or Ebay then you could try Tony Weston (Google Citroen specialist on the A38), he has helped me in the past and they might know someone, if they can't help you.

Re: Sleeper Xantia 2L HDI
Does anyone know if you have to take oil filter off to get the alternator off on an HDi?
Taken two bolts out and although I cannot see clearly there must be a third bolt holding alternator on.
What a nightmare job!

Re: Sleeper Xantia 2L HDI
Hi Steve.
Mine has 4 bolts.
Managed to get it free but cannot manoeuvre it out for the life of me. The engine will not drop low enough.
It looks like I have to remove the hydraulic pump but cannot to the bolts on that. Well I can get to one of them. Had to remove and pull wiring loom out of the way to get this far.

Just got alternator out.
Not sure how I am going to get it back in. Ended up bending the metal panel of inner wing.

Re: Sleeper Xantia 2L HDI
You have probably already considered this but can you go to the manufacturer/distributor of the alternator for parts?

Re: Sleeper Xantia 2L HDI
HC Cargo do genuine Bosch spares as well as their own brand BUT... they only show the regulator for this model.
I’ve put a call out to Paul Roberts in case he has a spare.
If regulator resolved this then I might be rebuilt tomorrow (alternator). I need a week off af the r that rigmarole of getting it out.
Truly have no idea how it’s going to go back in. Truly no idea. That was one UGLY job.

I've used these people in the past for slip rings and brushes for repairing alternators.
