It appears mine is a bit intermittent!
Charged the battery and it started first time! I'll leave it a few days and see what happens...

how old is the battery? what kind of driving do you normally do? short, mixed, long journeys regularly?

Re: C5 2.2hdi non runner
Hi, the car is new to me but has only done 70k so I guess short and/or in frequent use.
I don't know how old the battery is but it has been changed and it tested as good to very good after the charge. I'll just see how it goes for a few days.

Sorry for the highjack, let us know how you're getting on.

Re: C5 2.2hdi non runner
check the static voltage of the battery before you start next time. If the drop is significantly below 12.6 off the charger voltage after say an overnight or couple of days max then no matter what the battery tester says your battery is most likely not holding sufficient charge. the reasons for it might not just be the battery however. cheers

Re: C5 2.2hdi non runner
I'd be very surprised if the battery isn't faulty!
Modern engines (with can bus systems) depend on absolute voltage. So if your battery is at all strange to a full charge, I would be tempted (convinced) to replace it. Both my Range Rover and my Jaguar XK8 like a fully charged (reliable) battery. Otherwise they play up and act the dick, such as refusal to fire, spinning but not starting, starting but flagging up fault codes for fun such as ABS, gearbox or some such. Head scratcher at the time and total time wasting, but interesting all the same.........................

I think I would replace "interesting" with "frustrating and blind siding"

Still not going, the code that the garages can't seem to get rid of is the P16A0 engine overspeed recognition. Any more ideas please ?

What is the fuel pressure on cranking?

Re: C5 2.2hdi non runner
please check the engine oil level is not too high. this code has popped up in several cases where engines have been overfilled. oil takes a while to settle in engines. ours is supposed to be checked 30 mins after stopping the engine to let all oil reach the sump. too much oil upsets the oil level sensor causing problems
I know this because the day after we bought our car from a Peugeot dealer it cut out and eventually refused to start. The numpties had overfilled the engine oil by just filling and dipping immediately. Turns out the oil was 7/8 mm up the stick when you dipped it properly. This upset the oil level sensor which then caused the cutting out and eventual non starting.

Seems leccy gremlins are out... Check the connections of the BSE under the bonnet. Wife's C4 was playing funny and it turned out that parking at work is under trees. Said tree's peed tree bits which (somehow) got into the plastic cover and while the unit is sealed, the fuses aren't. I ended up removing the unit, (took photo's of fuses to help reassembly) removed all fuses, checked and cleaned with a fine file and electrical cleaner (clutch cleaner is same stuff) then set about the fuse holders with a mouse tail file then sprayed with electrical cleaner.
Put it back together and its been fine since....apart from the clutch issue, lol.
Another thing might be same unit, but the multilug connectionsnmay be grotty and peventing that signals getting through. Also, check for chafing loom near the engine, gearbox and bulkhead. finally, check the earth connections. It's not unknown for them to go grotty.
My Berlingo Multispace has several fuses under a cover at the battery + which are bolted down. I had fun with one recently and once again it was simply a grotty connection. But it was enough to stop my tow bar sockets working.

Interesting. The car has been running a good few weeks since the oil change but I will ask the mechanics if they checked that.Dormouse wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 08:54 please check the engine oil level is not too high. this code has popped up in several cases where engines have been overfilled. oil takes a while to settle in engines. ours is supposed to be checked 30 mins after stopping the engine to let all oil reach the sump. too much oil upsets the oil level sensor causing problems

Hi, we have tried another fuse box, back and forth and no difference but I agree, electrical!Doo wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 14:09 Seems leccy gremlins are out... Re: C5 2.2hdi non runner
I understand you have a new fuel pump but what is the actual fuel pressure on cranking? There are other reasons there may not be enough fuel pressure apart from a faulty pump.
