Diesel Preheater light is a no show

Post by Matheu »

Hello,
I've not long had this car, first time diesel owner, xsara picasso 1.6 2005, but had noticed that the diesel preheater light, which should come on briefly, doesn't! I mean, like, I've never seen it at all.

I've taken the digital dash off and swapped out the bulb for a different one, just to test, have even run continuity across the holder. bulbs are seated properly and are fine.

What would be my next move, relays or plugs ?

Cheers (I have a Haynes being delivered soon) - Starts, runs, drives fine, just no light at all.

Don’t bother, it’s rarely used for starting on an HDI, except for extreme cold weather and for post heating for regeneration where a DPF is fitted.

It’s not like the non-HDI engines, where you had to wait for the pre-heating glowplug light to go off before starting.

I’ve never seen it on any of my HDis and I’ve had a few! Ignore it and save yourself wasting time,

Thats great to hear, consider it ignored... after a bit of reading I see people stating that we may see it at sub 0 temps.... lol

I have, VERY occasionally, seen the light come on, but if you were to blink you would miss it.

Yes, the last thing you want to be doing is tempting fate - I'd only consider replacing the glow plugs as a last resort as on older cars they can become seized and break off.... say no more :-D
