Can they be serious?
I have just watched the tv advert for Serious Lights. I cannot believe they are trying to sell table lamps for £249.99 based on them giving daylight lighting for craft work or reading etc. The lamps look like a standard flexi desk light which you can easily find for less than £25. They may have daylight LEDs but has the materialism streak in today's consumer market really gone mad?

Re: Can they be serious?
That wouldn't be the one that is for a company based in Aylesbury (and if you quote a code you also get another lamp), is it?

I didn't watch closely enough to know about Aylesbury but I think there was mention of a free lamp worth £150 if you quoted a code. Am I going doolally or are conmen actually advertising on tv these days?

Re: Can they be serious?
Quick answer: Yes. Always folk out there who will only pay high prices.
Bit like having mahogany skirting boards fitted, then having them painted gloss white...
Long ago noticed items on Amazon, and more noticeably eBay, where most of the ads for a specific item are at similar (affordable) prces, but then the same item − sometimes from the same seller − is listed at 10x that asking price!
It only takes one...

Re: Can they be serious?
Yes I've seen them online in various markets, Chris, I just can't believe that there are sufficient people who are stupid enough to pay those prices to warrant funding a tv advertising campaign!!
You have to feel sorry for anyone whose materialism, or snobbishness if you prefer, has such a hold on them. Just imagine how much better the world would be if someone willing to pay £250 for a lamp for snob value, paid £20 for the lamp and gave the other £230 to Save the Children or Oxfam or Wateraid etc. Snob would still have the light and a lot of less fortunate people could be helped!!

"I saw you Coming" in Notting Hill is good for that sort of stuff.

Re: Can they be serious?
I do recall that (among other ailments) my Great Aunt suffered from SAD (Seasonal Affliction Disorder). Her son Bob bought her a 'sunlight' lamp to use during the winter months. I don't know how much it cost, but they both felt it was worth the price, as she felt much better during the dark months after receiving it. Her bungalow is well lit (nice large windows) and she did take vitamins daily, but the lamp also helped.

Re: Can they be serious?
One of my customers used to do the markets in Blackpool, he told me he sold gloves at three prices, the highest priced always sold out first and he just moved the lesser priced ones along to the high price box, all the gloves were bought direct from the maker by the sack full and were identical.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
