Good morning all,
The rear view camera on my DS5 (2012 model) is great in the day but quite useless in a dark carpark or in the evenings. i have replaced teh reverse lights with LED ones as well as the numberplate ones but still not much luck. Has anyone done anything to resolve the poor quality issues?
Many thanks

Re: Reverse Camera
Unfortunately it's known that the quality was poor on these early ones.
There is a Technical Service Bulletin about this issue - D6AW014VQ0 "Poor visibility of the image transmitted by the visual reversing assistance video camera at night".
If you contact the dealer and quote this TSB, they should be able to advise you as to what this involves to rectify.

Re: Reverse Camera
The issue is due to poor light sensitivity performance of the visual reversing assistance camera photosensitive sensor.
From build date 25th November 2014 a new camera was fitted to resolve the issue.
The new replacement camera part number is: 9812729280 and available from Citroen for £186.01 inc. VAT

How easy would this be to fit myself.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
The rear bumper has to come off to get to the wiring as it's built into the bumper not the tailgate. Also the rear undershield deflectors to get to the securing bolts of the bumper.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I have a strange problem.
I own two DS5s.
DS5 - 2015 - Manual
DS5 - 2016 - Automatic
My 2015 DS5 has an absolutely clear reverse camera, and my 2016 version has a very low quality one.
I have installed the latest updates on the head unit for both. The 2016 model has a slightly different interface and has Apple Car Pay, the 2015 model does not.
Does the software on the head unit affect the quality of the reverse camera image?
I am selling my 2015 DS5 - before I sell it I am thinking to take the reverse camera from it and put it on my 2016 model.
Is it really a case of taking the whole rear bumper off just to swap them?

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
I can't really help you with the DS badged version of the DS5 which was from 2015 on, but for the Citroen-badged versions, there was a reversing camera replacement due to poor quality vision (especially night).
It may also be a difference in the Head units - but honestly, it will be the camera that is likely to be the culprit as the Head Unit is just displaying the signal - there's no real tweaking that can be done. Ensuring the Head Units have the latest firmware is all you can do bar checking the camera. The rear bumper has to come off on these to get access as the wiring harness is there that the camera plugs into.

Thanks.
I’ve had a look underneath and can see the reverse camera and its cable from inside. I may be able to trace the cable and disconnect it without removing the bumper. I’ll see, depends how long the cable is.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Is the camera secured to the rear bumper? As I can’t really see or feel any thing holding it there. Does it just pop out?

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Head unit firmware:
2015 - SMEG6.1.D.R20
2016 - 7.3.1-r1
The head units appear to be very different.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Yes. The camera harness first has to be unclipped from inside the bumper where it is secured, (note these are very tight cable tie clips, so have to be cut and replaced with new ones) and the electrical connector to the harness is near the far left inside of the rear bumper (standing facing the rear bumper). Then the other end (camera part) is secured with a bolt that has to be undone and 3 plastic retaining clips that need pushing in together before the camera and the small harness is fed out towards the outside.Smartest_Smarty wrote: ↑26 Sep 2020, 12:05 Is the camera secured to the rear bumper? Hence why the bumper needs to come off.

Re: DS5 Reverse Camera
Any potential for undoing one side of the rear bumper only? Or rear wheel arch only to gain access?
