Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
I stopped somewhere a couple of days ago. The first explained where to park, and the second congratulated me on having the best car in the whole place. Further chat discovered he has had 9 Citroens, including CX and XM, and still misses Xantias compared to the C5 he has now.

Just go to How Many Left on google.
Plenty of breakdowns to model level, and historics, but some of the models may have been registered imprecisely.
For a real shock, try Peu 605.

I'll have a look at 605 in a sec, but our 1.9D auto is currently the only one on the road with one other SORNwhite exec wrote: ↑29 Jul 2020, 18:36 Just go to How Many Left on google.

Looks like my Xantia V6 is one of just 28 still left on the road in the UK 66 on SORN.

MOT extended by 1 year, but with a caveat - one month to fix this present brought to you by Finnish Road Salt Association:jauv wrote: ↑13 Sep 2019, 04:09What have I donejauv wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 15:41 Joined the forum to read up on tomorrow's plan - going to check out a 97 Xantia which looks to be in decent shape with ~135 000km in odometer. Though it has sat in storage for 10 years until recently, so I'm not expecting much. Hopefully it's as good as it seems, would certainly lead to more Xantia content.

I'll have the full damage evaluated today or tomorrow, but this probably places me at crossroads. Either a quick fix to satisfy MOT or a proper rust repair, but I'm a bit hesitant on the latter - it's likely rusting from inside out on both sides there. The car is in good nick but strut tops are likely nearing end of life as well, so catching up with maintenance would mean a hefty chunk of change for a relatively low value car. Then again I did test drive some cars in the my price range (05ish Accord and Avensis) and I didn't find them fun, and I don't foresee other hefty expenses.
And it looks so pretty:

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
After 10 years 'resting', most hydraulic Citroens creak and groan a bit, as all the moving parts start to get some use again. Brakes (especially the rears) will feel a bit underwhelming, and electric windows might struggle.
All these beasts thrive on regular use, so that's the best medicine.
Coolant and LHM renewal (running the car on Hydraurincage for 1500-5000km would be a good thing to do) pretty much first jobs.
Hope the rusty bits aren't too much of a challenge. Why do folk simply refuse to protect these parts? They probably thing it will never happen to them...

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
@Skull certainly did, it doesn't feel like a 23 year old car.
The previous owner changed LHM (no Hydraurincage, also didn't flush brakes), coolant, transmission and engine oils. He also did timing belt and had to change ECU. Now I've put ~4000km in and been quite thrifty(only switched lambda), as I've been unsure if the car had expensive gremlins hidden - gladly no, except for the rust issue. Now I'm waiting for bodywork shop's evaluation on the damage, if fixing and protecting the chassis for a long run is reasonable (say, not much over a grand), I'll get on top of maintenance.
What comes to rust, yeah, people tend to trust the factory Zinc coating, and sell forward before rust becomes an issue.
