Being a glutton for punishment and having endured but thoroughly enjoyed my first one for three months and several thousand miles, I am looking for another.
My wife's 406 has finally succumbed after many years and 220k of use, due to failure of the brake servo unit, I have a spare in the scrap car but changing it seems to be a job of mammoth proportions. According to Mr Hains either the head has to come off or the engine out as the linkage from the pedal to the unit goes right along behind the engine, so unless anyone knows a very short cut, its for the chop. My wife has also taken a keen liking to the C5
I want a manual non hydropnumatic estate but with an exclusive interior, impossible? That's what I thought but I have found one. It has leather electric seats and a panoramic sun roof (not that I particularly wanted one of those) + sat nav etc. Done 109k and has had a new clutch and DMF but apparently not a steering rack.
Could you C5 experts give me an appraisal of this car, any particular reason due to its specification that I shouldn't buy it?
Thanks
Peter

What's the Reg if you haven't bought it yest Peter.... It won't be an Exclusive! It will likely be a VTR+ or similar that has had an option pack specified. All Exclusives have Hydractive 3+ suspension.

Re: Another C5 ......
Just to explain, there were standard trim levels on early C5 X7s, - SX, VTR, VTR+, Exclusive.
Option packs were available as add ons - but some option packs were only available on higher trim levels.
So where you could opt for full leather on a VTR+, it still would not have the Exclusive trim levels or features that were standard on the Exclusive. Further, the Exclusive did not come with the full leather pack as standard, that was a £2.5k optional extra! Nor did the Exclusive have one of the Sat Nav options as standard on earlier models - that was another optional upgrade.
So you were limited to which option packs you could of ordered based on the base trim level and again, some options were incompatible.
Exclusives have Hydractive 3+ as standard, seen as the creme de la creme. They also come with the Electronic Parking brake. They have ambient lighting, bizone / dual climate control, wheel trims are different, and different mirror options as well as engine availability,
I’ll get a spec tomorrow for you from the reg when I’m back in my main rig.

Re: Another C5 ......
Thanks Marc, I understand now. Presumably they had most of the extras going on the VTR+satnav, including the panoramic roof and parking sensors. Never seen another VTR that well equipped.

Re: Another C5 ......
In this case, I suspect the original purchaser did not want Hydractive suspension, but wanted a decent spec., so went for the VTR+ and used the cash he would of had to spend on an Exclusive to purchase a few options like the roof, leather pack and a sat nav

Re: Another C5 ......
That's what I thought it must be, if its OK it will be ideal for me as it has all I would want, some of the other Exclusive additions I would not - more to go wrong. Going to see it the week after next as they are away next week and he is only available on weekends. Its the other side of the country so will have to get a Travelodge. I have offered him 1800 pounds providing it has no major faults. Will let you know how we get on.

Sounds like it might be a goodun Peter. Hope it is.
Did you say it had the HID headlights? They're a nice option and I wish my X7 had better lights.

I don't think it said so probably not. My C5 lights are not as good as the 406, but certainly better than the XM.

Re: Another C5 ......
Ok, so confirmed as a VTR+
Tax due July 2020, MOTd to September 2020.
Emissions: 160 g/km, so Tax £200 a year. Note there are several versions of this engine - you have the RHR engine that is slightly less powerful than the 140 Bhp version and this one emits slightly more CO2. Tax band G.
C5 (X7) 5 DOOR ESTATE 2.0 HDi 138 particle emission filter Manual gearbox 6
The Sat Nav you have is the RT4 Navidrive system (no Bluetooth, but uses a SIM card in the unit to make and receive calls)
Last maps produced are 2016/17 (data collected last quarter of 2015) Note: The previous owner may have an older map installed. The latest 2016/17 maps for the whole of western Europe is £129 from Citroen Navidation on 12 CDs:
(https://citroen.navigation.com/product- ... enEMEA/GBP)
So no Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Has standard halogen Headlamps (non-directional, non Bi Xenon)
No Sunroof - just a panoramic roof with an electric blind.
No motorised tailgate - standard struts
Full leather heated seats with driver massage function
Standard mechanical handbrake
Metallic Suspension
I think that's the main things....

Re: Another C5 ......
Fortunately they don't need replacing often. I never had to replace the HID dipped beam bulbs on my old Mk1 C5 whereas I did replace at least one of the H1 halogen main beam bulbs.

Re: Another C5 ......
Thanks Marc, That sounds about right, although it does have a Parrot Bluetooth system fitted. I'm pleased it doesn't have tyre pressure monitors, problematic I hear. He said the satnav had recently been updated.
OK on the lamps Paul, pleased to hear that.
