Roadworks ahead!

Post by xantia_v6 »

I am trialling some minor changes to the forum layout.

Today's change should only affect the layout of the forum header bar. The buttons have moved back inside the image (where they were until I moved them outside of the image last year).

You may need to clear your browser cache (ctrl-f5 on a PC) to actually see any change.

On some phones, there may be a little clipping of the text in the forum header, but I will adjust that later if necessary..

Thanks for the info, however the name on the mobile header is not that clear, well on my LG G2 anyway, see attached. Would it be possible to use drop down menus?
Thanks again

Thanks for the feedback. The clipping of the text will be adjusted. I will also adjust the contrast of the buttons.

I deliberately avoid drop-down menus unless absolutely required.

Here are 2 snaps from an iPhone 6 Plus for comparison Mike - Landscape is fine, but Portrait the buttons are not really legible.

I have reverted to the old style for now, I was not really happy with the effect, but I have an idea for a better version.

I have uploaded a new version of the forum "style" or "skin" to test. The changes for now should be quite subtle.
You won't see some of the changes without clearing your browser cache.
Let me know it it seems broken.

Are these changes for PC viewing, phone viewing or both? FWIW I can't see anything on my laptop. Mind you, I didn't notice the tabs moving back inside the header!

Right now, I have reverted to the old version because I noticed another layout issue on some pages.

The (intended) changes were pretty subtle, on a PC the mouse hover over the header buttons changed a little, and on a phone the formatting of forum lists and search results changed a little.

This is preliminary testing to get the software into a clean state before the next real update. One of my objectives is to improve the compatibility of this forum's style with phpBB extensions, I think I am nearly there with that, but the code is complicated enough to give nasty surprises.

I will be doing some more (probably brief) tests in the coming days.

I will be attempting this update again this morning.
I anticipate that some pages (notably the new posts etc pages) may not work properly until I get the configuration sorted out.

I have now sorted out a couple of minor issues and the forum is running on the new version of the "style". i would appreciate any comments on the intended subtle changes, or the unintended bugs.

You may need to clear your browser cache to load all of the changed files (e.g. the forum and topic icons).

Well that seemed to go smoothly, there have been no comments, adverse or otherwise. This set of changes will now become permanent.
