You might want to try turning it over manually to check that the engine is not hydraulic locked by a cylinder full of fuel.

Changing the oil won't really solve any problems except the high oil level. You need to find out whats causing the problems so the car needs to be scanned. There are usually back street mechanics that will scan your car for cheap if you can't afford the dealer diagnostics. There are people on this site that have the dealer level diagnostic tool that would be happy to scan the car. They won't rob you maybe just a few beer tokens or tea and biscuits (chocolate digestives at a minimum)

We still don't know for sure if a DPF is fitted as the VIN hasn't yet been given. If @Namele55 could post that up we could move on properly.

The faults are stored in the cars ECU starting it isn't necessary

You can safely post the VIN into the Forum. The software will automatically obscure it (although Moderators will still be able to read it).

Keep the oil, let it settle and see if it is ultra thin or water contaminated....also if you can change the filter before refilling.

In fact definitely DON'T PM the VIN as the forum software masks the number and staff can't read it there.

Ok so I changed the temp sensor which sorted out the fluctuating gauge, mechanic coming out at lunch time to replace the copper injector seals which he said was what the problem was. Will see what happens when he's done & let you know

Re: Many problems & don't know where to start
Ok so the mechanic came out & replaced all the copper injector seals, the ones that came off were absolutely shot!
I took the car out for a small run after he'd done & it seems much more responsive, less smokey & generally much smoother.
So the temp sensor & injector seals seem to have been the problem. Must say I'm glad I didn't have to splash out for new injectors. I'll keep an eye on things & let you all know how it runs over the next few weeks, thank you all for the responses

Good news on getting those two things identified and fixed!
