Hi, I have tried to research as much as I can but I’m a bit lost. Can someone help me out on what I need to get?
Is it just the ecu, bsi and the key chip?
Do I need any more info about the donor car?
If I’m getting a full set, does the replacement ecu code still need to match my current ecu?
Is it just a simple plug and go swap? What is the 4 digit code? Do I need to know mine?
Is it quite successfully?
Thanks

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
Assuming you’re at the stage where you need to replace them, then yes you will need a matched set. You must get the correct engine ECU for your car as there are different types depending on engine type. I would suggest the same goes for a replacement BSI as they had a few versions out.
One thing you really need to do if possible is access your current BSI configuration data, as this will need to be rechecked once the donor system is installed, as this may have different options and ECUs than on your car.
Getting a donor set from the same model, trim and year would make this simpler, you would likely have only the customer options to check are ins stalled or not.
You can replace the key fob blade key with you original one, so that you don’t have to replace the ignition starter or door locks. But you will need the matching fob from the donor car to go with the BSI and Wngine ECU.
You should not need a pin code if you are replacing the entire 3 components. Always allow the car computer systems to sleep for 5 minutes (leave the bonnet open), without opening any doors, then disconnect the battery before disconnecting any on these donor parts. Once they have been replaced, keep all the doors closed. Connect the battery and leave everything for 5 minutes, then you can turn the ignition on, check for any warnings and then try locking and unlocking the car a few times, before trying to start the engine.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
You wont need the immobiliser code as they are already a matched set however you will need it if you need to program a key to the car in the future.
Best to at leas get a note of the VIN of the car they are coming off of. You can also get it from the BSI when you interrogate it with Lexia as it will still have the original VIN programmed to it.

Yes of course - Key Programming will require the PIN code - I forgot to mention that.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
Thanks for the replys, I keep getting told it doesn’t matter about matching my code as long as I buy a complete kit (ecu, bsi and key chip) what are you opinions on this?

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
What I forgot to mention (and what Wheeler was referring to) concerns the actual future programming of the keys. If, in the future, you need a new replacement key fob, then it will need to be programmed. This is when you will need the pin code from the donor vehicle to use with Lexia / Diagbox to programme the new replacement key (and your existing ones as the programming must be done with ALL the keys in the same session). Without the code you cannot programme any new keys and to get the code you will need to supply the dealer with proof of ownership - and of course that may be difficult from a Donor vehicle, unless you have the bill for the parts with the VIN code or something similar to show.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
Thanks again, what do you think about getting the exact ecu serial numbers? I keep getting told that as long as it’s from a 1.6 hdi xsar picasso then it will be ok. Would there be much difference in the different ecu and bsi numbers?

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
If you can get a set that have the same part numbers as your original systems then the likelihood of and errors or problems is futther reduced. If you want the part numbers for you existing kit, PM your original VIN and I'll look them up.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
Ok Andy, so:
Engine ECU Citroen Part Number is: 1940VX (9656161680)
BSI: Citroen Part: 6580FF (9657999780)
Obviously you're after the key transponder fobs too so I haven't bothered with these as you'll need the ones from the set of the above.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
I have found one that matches the ecu number but not the bsi number? Would this be a no no?
Thanks

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
The S118085220 number should also be the same as yours - Assuming your car is immobile already, you should be able to check the label of your BSI to confirm - as they say they wat a photo as condition of sale.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
Feels like I’m going to be looking for a needle in a haystack
What are the differences likely to be because I need the car back on the road ASAP!!! Would it work if I got a full set with a different code? As long as it came out the same car and year.
Out of interest could I just replace the ecu? If so where do I get my ecu 4 digit code from?

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
I don’t know what the original problem is, so can only go on what you say here. But assuming you need to replace the BSI:
If you buy a brand new blank BSI, your existing Engine ECU and Key fobs can be coded to the new BSI.
If you are relying on a second hand BSI, you will require a matched set consisting of the BSI, Engine ECU and Transponder Key fobs, as the BSI can only be coded once.
The variations in the BSIs are probably to do with changes to models and to support other vehicles and changes to specifications, so I cannot say for sure and that is why getting one that matches the part numbers of your existing kit is the safest bet.

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
You can just replace the ECU on its own but you would need to send it to a specialist to either have it virginised or have the security info from your ECU cloned onto the donor ECU

Re: Ecu and bsi replacement
But if that doesn’t work, then he won’t be able to send it back as it will have been coded to his car and part of a set I suspect
