ZX Wheel Size
Can anyone tell me if my '94 1.9D Avantage will take 15" wheels from a xantia or a 205/405 without fouling suspension or steering. Also what would be the widest tyre fitment...cheers

ZX wheels as far as I am aware are 13" or 14" depending on the model, including the Aura and the Volcane which were the only ones to get alloys.
You will need to match the rolling circumference of any other wheel/tyre combination with that of the originals, the speedo will be less accurate if you don't.
Also make sure your Insurance company approves of the change, if you have a prang the rubber is the first thing that gets looked at.

The ZX 16 valve came with 15" alloys as standard anyway.
I ran 15" wheels froma Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi on 195/50/15's with absolutely no problems at all, on a ZX Volcane.
Anything from 205,306,309,405 etc has the same offset/ PCD and go straight on with no problems.

I don't know how you have arrived at those figures but here's how to calculate the diameter from any given tyre size.
Example: 195/50x15
195=width, 50=aspect ratio(percentage of tread width), 15= rim diameter in inches, 15 x 25.4 = 381mm
195 x.5 x 2 + 381 = 576 diameter or 288 radius
165 x.7 x 2 + 330 = 561 diameter or 280 radius
The original tyre will be doing approx. 1065 rmp @ 70 mph
The 195/50x15 will be doing approx. 1037 rpm @ 70 mph
The car will travel less than 2" further per wheel revolution on the 15's, an error of about 2.5% so hardly worth bothering about since speedo's aren't that accurate anyway.
