I was very nearly off my bike this morning. The stays for the front mudguard came adrift, whipped round, and then got jammed between the forks and brakes, almost locking the front wheel

With no tools I couldn't free it at the side of the road, cue a 2 mile walk home carrying the bike. I've managed to pop rivet the brackets back on, so good to go again. Just a couple of chips in the paint on the forks...

There are numerous unpleasant tales of mudguard stays jamming in (front) wheels. You have got off quite lightly. They do make some designed to pop off to make this less lethal, but then they are just much more likely to come off and get stuck so I'm not convinced it's much of an improvement. I partly blame the various flavours of adjustable attachment which are often a bit s**t. And plastic mudguards. They are cheap and light but they break and the stay brackets break off them due to the flexing. I have one bike with lovely 'Dutch' metal mudguards and they are so gloriously rigid and robust and look like they'll stay nicely put for decades, and won't rub on your tyres. Quite expensive to retrofit, but will last a lifetime.

I don't ride with mudguards any more... I tolerate the fact that bike and I get mucky on a wet day as a result!

It's been a truly magical day down this way today

I made the absolute most of it....

16.6mph average with some quite challenging climbing thrown into the mix!

A truly magical ride and warm in the sunshine too

And that was after running 10K this morning faster than I have for some while

I think I can safely say I'm now fully recovered from the effects of my Covid jab

Very lucky there Richard! That could have ended So very badly!

Met up with a buddy who's been allowed out after quarantine since getting home from his job in Kazakhstan, last time he was back had to bail through pain, almost had to do the same due to some tree clearing on the trails Sunday, but 4am painkillers helped and with the weather changing tomorrow was too good a chance to miss!
Quick loop of the woods on the Stupidly long steel beasts! Opertunity for a quick picture or two!

His chromag is about two inches longer than mine, but he is running full 29" over my 29/27.5+ and 2 degree slacker head angle at 62 degrees with 20mm longer travel at 180mm, was Great fun, and good to ride with him again! With him being unfit at the mo, made me feel like an Olympian

Today I passed 3,500 miles ridden on the Zwift virtual cycling platform

Zwift also tells me I've achieved just under 200,000 ft. of elevation gain in that time!

Another crash yesterday ...funnily enough I was going to visit a friends headstone ....nearly took a shortcut to the cemetery badly bruised ribs (hopefully although might have cracked them), 8 miles in, riding on a rough cycle path rather than road for safety, rode into a fallen tree branch which pulled my bars, bounced me and the Huffy off the bank and into the oncoming lane - lucky again nothing was coming towards me.

Ironically I wouldn't have rode through the branch if I hadn't had my helmet on to shield my head and face from the branches.

Thanks to all those who stopped to check on me, offers of a lift etc.

Huffy is OK just a snapped data cable - tougher than me ...ruined my average speed though .....got to be an easier way to keep fit

Not as such but I have amended the title on my post here to reflect your misfortune Skull, or indeed good fortune that it wasn't worse.

Hope the bruised ribs aren't too bad, in my experience the bruised rib after taking a tumble on a bike is one of those injuries that, just when you think you have found a comfortable position to have a nice sleep, a mere millimetre or 2 of slight adjustment has you yelping in pain.

Hope its not too bad for you and you are back in the saddle soon. I like your pics of the local scenery!
