Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Basically, it's down to duty of care.
If you have a dangerous building then you have to tick the box that says you've made an effort to keep people away from harm. In such a location, putting up signs saying 'Keep Out' aren't enough as it's reasonable to expect darling little innocent Johnnyboy to ignore them and go in anyway. ......then something bad happens to him...... then the social media circus rolls in and starts up with the 'It's so unfair ', 'nasty owner didn't care ', 'something should have been done ' etc, etc. The simple action of putting up and maintaining the fencing circumvents an awful lot of grief later on.

Two examples of Monochrome effects......one a simple automatisation in Photoshop but the 2nd two shots with the camera set to Monochrome then using a "special" filter imported via LightRoom that uses graining etc....

Or answer to the question "what's the absolute bare minimum that could be done to make it look like the demanded repairs have begun?"

Love that but then again I do like my monochrome

The building's quaint but frankly pulling it down would be no great loss, it's an old tin roofed shed.CitroJim wrote: 16 Apr 2025, 08:36 The garage I take my cars to for their MoTs... The workshops - equally tumbledown - are behind this building facing the road. It was once a pub and hence the rather odd name for an automotive establishment...
The building has been declared unsafe and only one room is now accessible - the garage reception and office...
It's a listed building and part of our town heritage. It was once thatched before the roof was replaced by corrugated iron.
There is an order for the landlord to restore the building and make it safe but progress is slow. We hope it happens before it finally falls down!
It's located right next door to part of the Aston Martin heritage estate.
Steve, the garage proprietor, does not own any of the buildings...
Maybe those who want to preserve it could pay to have it moved to some museum site.

As said, it's listed, used to be thatched and used to be the 'Two Wrestlers' pub and coachhouse. The present day garage works out of the old stables...
And it's part of our town heritage...

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I actually looked up its Listing status***
"Summary
A house, perhaps originally of late-medieval date, with a C16 or C17 inserted floor and smoke bays and C18 and C19 and C20 additions and alterations.
Reasons for Designation
51 Tickford Street, Newport Pagnall is listed at Grade II for the following principal reasons:
Architectural interest:
* it retains evidence in its fabric and form of its early origins as a possible hall-house, with later additions representing the evolution of the building which add to its architectural interest; * the C19 public house fittings inside the building give a clear idea of the plan and functioning of the building at that phase.
Historic interest:
* the inclusion of two, back-to-back smoke hoods, which appear to be a later addition, is a relatively rare survival, as are the modest, C19 public house fittings, particularly in the snug bar.
Group value:
* with other listed buildings in the Newport Pagnall Conservation area, including numbers 45, 47 and 49 Tickford Street (all Grade II)."
https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/ ... list-entry
***- I searched on the Historic England website for 'Two Wrestlers Pub", astonishingly for me - but not for anyone else ! - the next result was for historic murals underneath MOD Corsham, murals that I know very well. Small world etc, etc.

That was an interesting read Bobins - I was not aware of the smoke hoods... I guess they're in the inaccessible parts of the building...
And yes, it's a very small world... And all the better for it too

IIRC, one of the murals underground depicts a couple of wrestlers - hence it came up in the HE Listing search. I'll have a look when I get home to see if I've got a photo so we can have two two wrestlers photos

The "smoke hoods" sound like the ideal spot for emission testing an old diesel that's lacked the occasional Italian Tune Up

No need Matt... Steve's MoT Bay (a grand name for a practically derelict barn) has plenty of 'natural' ventilation if you get my gistMattBLancs wrote: 17 Apr 2025, 13:37 The "smoke hoods" sound like the ideal spot for emission testing an old diesel that's lacked the occasional Italian Tune Up![]()
