A fair collection of cooling towers, in 2006 anyway, and a power station with a nice bit of alliteration in the name.

The Cheshire contingent should know what it's called.....

That's Fiddler's Ferry! As a student, I spent a very memorable winter's evening with a young woman in the pub of the same name, way back in 1967, gazing out across the river at the distant lights. Six foot, ash-blonde, legs that went on for ever . . . will never forget you, Miss Crookes

P.O.T.D...wet Monday

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Well after a successful Power Generation Plant Day, its back to normal again. Anyone who missed it can, as is the norm these days, recreate the excitement, by visiting the FCF Turn back Time Machine

Very much enjoyed the contribitions, thanks to all who joined in! :-D

How on earth does the pic of Dungeness look so light and friendly? My memories are of a very grey forbidding character to the place; but then probably only seen it up close on cloudy low sky days. Even on sunny days I seem to recall Dungeness always looked grim :( .

Dungeness sounds as though it would look pretty grim.

It's the radiation ;) Amazing what a few isotopes can do to transform a place...

Can anybody tell me which comedy film was, in part, shot in the area around Dungeness?

Not a comedy James.
The Dungeness Nuclear Power Station was used in an episode of Doctor Who. The Kent Film Office state that the station was featured in the 1971 episode, The Claws of Axons starring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor. The Kent Film Office writes on their site that the power station doubled as a “Nuton power complex”. Cole Moreton a Doctor Who fan wrote in The Telegraph that the Dungeness beach was also used in the episode and featured in a key scene where an alien craft landed.
Or perhaps it was.

I have a feeling that part of "A For Andromeda" was filmed there to but may be imagining that.

The wiki article on Dungeness has info on some of its film/music video/album covers credits but don't think a comedy is on the list. Elsewhere in the article there is a reference to these things at Denge built in the 1930's, but instantly obsolete when radar came along :)

The film I was thinking of was "Carry On Follow that Camel", filmed (for the desert scenes) at Camber Sands.
