BX heater no go
Hi Folks,
I've got a fair idea but some reassurance would be good please........
1989 BX 16v with a non functioning heater. i.e. - it doesnt blow at all.
Is it likely to be total failure of blower unit?
Or possibly failure of the old chestnut PCB heater control thingy.
All advice and tips on how to tackle the job welcome.

Urm its yours Ian
I thought it best to consult the experts before rushing in and changing the whole motor, if it doesnt need it then why bother
You know the whole better safe than sorry ploy.

I've got problems with mine - serves me right for neglecting it - its never been convincing in the 6 years that I've had the car.
I've been searching the board and have found these threads

I believe there is a newer one posted in the last month somewhere there in cyberspace but I can't find it at the moment.
My fan motor seems fine when I jump it and the thing will function intermittently - so my first job is probably to remove the control switch panel and go on a dry joint hunt. I have checked and cleaned the brown connector to the motor but may have another play with this as it was very corroded.

usualy its the unit GSF call the fan resistor, and this when faulty can cause the copper contacts in the fan switch to burn out on early BXs,but it dose not usuly burn out on other than the very early BXs as they modified the copper contacts so they are more robust, jeremy wrote:I've got problems with mine - serves me right for neglecting it - its never been convincing in the 6 years that I've had the car.

Fixed it
Resistor pack (in heater blower unit itself) was the cukprit for not working at all, so changed that for another, only worked flat out.
Dissassembled the controls to get at Resistor PCB swipe thingy, sorted that out and hey presto variable heater also.

...and some electrickery to get the front/rear fog lights, reverse lights, rear wiper, heated rear window, number plate lights, electric mirror etc working!
Did you notice the brakes binding at all? They didn't seem to "release" when my foot lifted. Forgot to check if they were overly hot when I got home!

Funny, the electric mirror worked for me???
Maybe just a fuse?
Cant say i noticed the brakes binding, but only drove it about 7 miles in total, not enough to get them hot really.
Have fun, I've gotten the citroen speed bug again from your car, I've been looking at AX GT's on e-bay but Id prefer a visa if anyone knows of one?
