No Paul, they don't run windows, they run a form of Linux for the Chrome OS.

I know what they run.. And are so oooo much more reliable. And stable. I just wondered if diagbox could be run on it...

My lexia laptop hard drive is kaput.. I've got win xp home and key but isn't bootable.. I've. Got win xp pro without a key but the install stops with a blue screen and critic error.. So I'm going round and round on something that I really shouldn't be going round and round with. It drives me mad.. I've little patience for IT software repairs.

If your hardware is failing / has failed, then it won't matter Paul. BSOD is generally a hardware or driver failure, so if your HD is knackered, it will need replacing. Unfortunately, as XP is no longer supported, nor is Windows 7, there won't be any updates now to fix any driver issues unless you already have recent versions stored elsewhere. Lexia won't run on Linux. :(

The laptop is a netbook for Windows xp...

I can't even download a damm iso to try that incase it's disc damage.

I also need to put db cleaner trough the other laptop to try and install diagbox again with WiFi off.. But can't find that anywhere either despite people saying they have found it on the net..

I hate WINDOZE IT.. 🤣🤣

Just to be advised chaps that as W7 hasn't been supported for a few years now, I am aware of activation issues when reinstalling. If you have a valid key it is likely on reinstallation on another piece of hardware to refuse activation. So this may mean ringing MS up and going through the long-winded manual activation procedure on the phone where you have to enter blocks of numbers provided from the licensing screen within W7.

When I installed w7 on my other Samsung note book which was an xp machine I had no issues with activation.. I even got the key online. The disc has become damaged now which is why I'm very grateful of kennys offer.

If it revives the toshiba netbook ill be happy but I need to work out how to update the bios from v1. 3 to v2. 0 or higher without an operating system

Most (but NOT all) PCs/Laptops have their BIOS firmware updated from a bootable media (although most modern systems have the ability to run a BIOS update from within the Operating System). Take a look on the Toshiba website, searching for that model of netbook in their Software/Drivers section. If you want to PM me the model number of the netbook I will see what I can find.

Can't you update the BIOS from a bootable floppy disk?

I have pointed Paul in the right direction for the software drivers and BIOS update, and it looks like the update program is run from within Windows (there were two versions, one for Linux and the other for Windows), which is a bit awkward. He may have to install WinXP first, as Win7 needs the BIOS to be at/above V2.

The BIOS isn't really going to affect installation of Diagbox or not. The BIOS can always be updated later on after an OS is installed.

However a 'Netbook' is a very low specification computer and many are known to be insufficient to run Diagbox from past experience in any case. I would of pointed this out initially, but I've just re-read your first post Paul. These are really intended for very light duties and may not have the processor, graphics or memory requirements for a DB installation, or will may not be able to handle the graphics. If it was able to be installed it may not run, or run extremely slowly to the point of being unusable. Just wanted to possibly save you some grief down the line.
