Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Hi Lads just waiting on a gasket for the egr valve and need to pick up a new 5mm bolt for the cam sensor. I should be ready to refit the engine and gearbox then . Then hopefully she'll start without too much hassle.if it doesn't I think I will lose the plot.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Hi lads, I put the engine and gearbox back in this afternoon, unfortunately I broke the turbo actuator position sensor in the process as you can see in the picture below. I also damaged the condenser, there's not much room using a crane to drop it in . It had happened before I could react.
I did get it in though so happy about that. Plenty to do while I wait but I will wait to put drive shafts and exhaust back in. Clutch operation seems smooth but can't check until I have linkage reconnected.

Yeah very close now Matt, a few bits left as I say. I have to do a good bit on the Aircon. hoses and condenser are knackered and I may replace the dryer while I am at it chances are it will give trouble if I don't. It was completely empty when I checked it. It will be a practically new car when I am finished

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Just made a disturbing discovery I had drained all the oil out of the engine before I started working on it. As you know I had a mishap with rain water getting in under the plastic I had the engine covered with. I blew the water out with a compressor and I was comfortable putting the intake manifold back on I never pulled the plug at the time. However I just pulled the oil plug this evening to drain the last of the old oil. I reckon about 4L of water came out followed by a nice layer of black sludge.
I rotated the engine slowly by hand and it seems smooth after.
I am concerned it was possible the crank was sitting in it, the pan is quite deep though I don't think it would have been sitting in it.
I am leaving it draining overnight. Do you think it will be ok if I fill with fresh oil and crank by hand checking for resistance and if none then try running it. I think I will lose the plot if it is kaput because of this.there can't have been water in the cylinders since the rain was blown out.this is just residual water.
The last one of these I had the engine hydrolocked because of extreme flooding on my way home from the shop.. I am beginning to wonder if I am supposed to have a Citroen .

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
Oh dear, can feel your pain there!
If was me, think I'd take the sump off (engine in car still) have a good look and make sure all the water is gone from sump. Is it a pressed steel sump with recessed plug? It is in my 2.2 and my wife's 1.6 HDi 206. Quite a bit doesn't get drained on the 206, I had the sump off and was surprised how much is still in there!
4 litres of water= about normal oil level, crank doesn't touch the oil normally so shouldn't have sat in water either on that basis.
I think you are supposed have a Citroen, any one who wasn't would have given up long before your current challenges!
Sump off for a look, pictures if anything you aren't sure of if you want a distant opinion from some nutcase in Lancashire!

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I was thinking the crank should be ok I think I will pull the sump as you suggest probably safest bet.
Yes pressed steel sump. True it takes a particularly special sort of a nutter to willingly participate in my current challenges. There's a pair of us in it I think.
It's staying in the car when I have it off I will take pictures and post up either way. it looked pretty good underneath before the recent. unpleasantness.
I will give it a good doing with teflon based penetrating oil before reassembly just to be on the safe side. I don't know whether I will get at it this weekend the weather forecast is atrocious.

Well took it off very clean looking under there but discovered a split in the sump though that I hadn't seen before so yet another part to replace. Just keeps giving. Any the cylinders are fine no rust so just have to wait for parts now.

At least when you're finished everything, the car will be better than when it came out of the factory. Keep up the good work you can see the finish line

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
I noticed my left hand head lamp is a bit loose so pulled the front bumper forward. I discovered the two tabs behind the bumper are broken, I am just wondering what is the purpose of the helical part of the tab closest to the radiator.

Re: Injectors misbehaving but trying to understand the numbers
New sump, driveshafts, turbo actuator position sensor, turbo lower pipe, cross member and new exhaust clamp all installed. Waiting on AC parts to complete the build. Getting excited and nervous now. I pulled the injectors again yesterday I had forgotten to log the codes as they are replacement injectors. All back together again now though. I still have to install a new drop link and tighten up some of the suspension.
I forgot to photograph the new sump the difference in the old aluminium of the gearbox and the new is cool.
The new sump was easier to fit than the original one. I will try to remember to photograph it next time I am under the car. Worst of it done now. Battery trickle charged to 13.5v so good to go when ready.

Know what you mean about "new" parts, sometimes feel I should give them a coat of lacquer to keep it looking that way!

I forgot to add these photos of the bottom end of the engine. I know they're not great but it's not great under there for photography
